Of all modern hot hatches these two are my favorites, either one and your a winner I reckon. R32 maybe a touch more 'special' as you see loads of mk5 gti's and they can tend to blend into the crowd
much prefer the mk5 gti to the mk5 R32 though, they really didn't get the styling of it right imo. Also saw they are doing an R36 passat!!!!! where was the promised R36 golf??
Honestly, thats a tough one! Mk4 R32 is one of my favourite golfs, however never driven one so cant really say. the Mk5 Gti is a outstanding car, can get very lead footed when you drive it. by far the best GTI to date... Have you seen the Mk6 GTI !!!!! 208BHP not bad, presumably will be able to tune as much as the mk5? http://events.uk.msn.com/paris-motor-show/article.aspx?cp-documentid=9853948
in ****e conditions I would agree, but unless you have some serious trickery such as active yaw etc, or stupid power that 2WD can't put down it isn't better IMO.
very true, was following a standard mk5 r32 on the motorway back from leeds this morning and flew straight past him, i bet he was gutted! was sort of dry but honestly in the wet the mk5 gti(stage 2) wheel spins up to 3rd! Its a different story when dry though, loads of torque steer in low gears and its puts the power down suprisingly well.
Still miss my gf Claire's mk4 R32 for the sound, but her current Edition 30 mk5 is such a capable car, pity it's just got a 4 pot drone to it!
But on a motorway, which wheels are driven makes no difference whatsoever. The overiding factors would be; You`re driving a non-standard GTI (Stage 2`d) And; Was he really trying? When I was a kid I thought my Dad`s MG Montego was fast because he once passed a Porsche on the motorway...
