So, have been thnking recently about finally getting a `proper` car as a daily. Have been looking at facelift R32s for a while, and the prices are fairly reasonable these days. For example, this one; two years old with full history, average miles, and comprehensive options list just sold for 16k; Very nice, but on a whim I looked up W12 Phaetons... This one is currently up at just 17k; seven years old, 53k miles, full history, and well specced; In terms of looks the R32 will always win, and the Phaeton is one of the fastest depreciating cars there is, but there`s something about having what is in essence a Bentley Continental (6 litres, 450bhp) for high-end hatch money that is almost irresistable. I`m thinking; better wheels, air suspension tweaks, and straight pipes...
phaeton's are also one of the cleverist (is that a word? Im too dumb to know for sure) cars out there. From what I remember memory seats that adjust automatically? remembers climate settings and radio station etc? It is brilliant. I was looking at them a while ago but it was only the slow and thirsty petrol's that were in my price range. Personally though I would get the R32
I'll have the wheels of it if you buy it, been looking for a set of them. Check with the servicing for the Phaeton as Im sure there is only certain dealers that touch them. Could be expensive if it goes wrong but I doubt many do. Is there any difference between R32's other than the wheels? Personally If I was spending that Id be going for an Ed30.
I also looked at the Phaeton before buying the R32. Looked at the V10 diesel tho' fancied something different that could help reverse the spin on the earth lol 300bhp and 550lbft of torque
Any dealer can service the Phaeton, only dealers which have Luxury trained tech can work on them W12 one hell of a engine, huge thing and amazing to drive - just torque....... Must warn you the spec is so amazing, if anything goes wrong it's back to old fashioned bodge or dig deep in your pocket! front wings are plastic fibre construction at 350ish aside wing mirrors have the same auto dimming technology as the mk4/5 haves for the rear view mirrors, @ 500 or 40 for a plain glass!! most of electronic are dated compared to mk5s depends if you have a train tech in your phone list (not it means much!) it could be on my list as well if in needed a big motor
R32 all day long, buti can see why you are looking at the Phaeton.... but I can't help look at it and think big passat. now if they made it in the CC that'd look awesome. I remember the horror stories a certain VW tech was telling about said car.
The one who told me to quit whining about my loom in the mk1 and the one who has experienced the massage feature of the rear seats in a Phaeton
Now why would I do something daft like that...? I want 6 litres. I want 12 cylinders. I want 450bhp. Sold...
For no other reason other than *****s and giggles at the next Curby Event, I'm saying go with the Pheaton. Will it even make it round the molehill in one go?
Great minds think alike! I was wondering exactly this last night... http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=224797
it will get around the mole hill, on air ride suspension in sports mode I'm talking myself into picking one up!
