And the Phaeton is even quicker again...* :p

*In a straight line at least, pending any confirmation otherwise post-Curby antics.

it is a fair point though.

If it's a toss up between mk5 and a phaeton then the edition 30 is better looking, more tunable and quicker. The V6 seem's like the third best option out the three

as standard the edition 30 is not faster than the mk5 r32;)

ps love both the Phaeton and the mk5 R32 get it done
and if the Phaeton has helios wheels i will have them

would think the R32 would be more pratical but go with your hart:thumbup:

I wouldnt put money on it... but id say that the ed30 is quicker than the r32 in most situations other than 0-60!

Bear in mind the r32s extra weight, haldex power sap.. and that the ed30s usually have about 240bhp as standard anyway!

    (I'm not biased in anyway)

the extra weight is about two 14 stone passengers 184 kg dsg adds just over 3 stone

with that the r32 dose well to be quicker but to be fair the edition 30 is handicapped
both the seat leon and audi s3 have more power from essentially the same engine

one thing you have to remember is the r32 is not a gti thats not what it is about
its is a lot more relaxing car to drive

plus he asked for a opinion on the Phaeton and R32 nothing else

Got two of those already! :p (Ok, so one doesn`t run yet... [:$])

I`ve wanted a 6-cylinder car for a while (I`m one of only two of the CGTI Manchester crew who hasn`t had one yet!), hence the R32, which would be the `sensible` option.

But, being far from sensible, something with essentially two VRs nailed together appeals to me greatly.

And the fact they`re available for similar money just makes it even more of an appeal.

The Edition 30, whilst undoubtedly a capable car (a friend had one in white, and is was pretty good), they don`t really float my boat enough to make me want one.

can see you getting stuck with the phaeton. Once the milage gets high, it will be old expensive car that's gone to the moon and costs a fortune to fix anything.

I wouldn`t plan to keep it much beyond a couple of years, TBH, so high milage wouldn`t be an issue.

I know the value would continue to drop like a stone, but this isn`t about making the sensible choice afterall!

    you want a e39 M5 , screw any 12 cylinder thing , those m5s are a joke fast !

or you touched on you wanted a 6cyl , get a e36 m3 then ! my friend had one with the spee limter taken off and go 175 down the A3! (the private section that is )

Dont see them loosing money , he brought it four about 8k and sold it for near the same ,

I think he bought a Mk3 8v instead, more torque than the Phaeton and better looking than the Mk5 R32[><]

    Yes, and no.

Seen it, agreed a price, and hopefully get it next week. Not a definate keeper though, but I do need to get on my knees at the bank for the Phaeton...

    Ten-a-penny... ;)

They`re nice, undoubtedly, but TBH, I prefer the original. And they don`t do a W12 version...

Both good suggestions, but the R36 is a bit over the proposed budget, and the W8s look just like any other Passat of that age, ie; boring!
