Later spec mk2s are much more lardy than the earlier ones, or so I've been told. Can anyone confirm/deny?
If it were true...... I don't know how well researched this article is, but it quotes 929kg for the Mk2: http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=16
lol, I hope you're joking mate, I think a 1500bhp Viper or 1000bhp Corvette would slightly waste a 500bhp FWD Ibiza. Not putting it down, but yanks with 8L twin turbo engines are fairly rapido.
Mine is well researched. Take a Mk2 Golf and put it on a local VOSA weigh-bridge. So yeah.. it's true.
My mk2 weighed 1040 kg with stripped interior and 16v engine, must weight about 3 ton now with a VR6 in the front and a cage
Yeah 929kg looked a bit low for the Mk2. Anyway, I don't have one and I have no idea how much they weigh. For info, here are the stock weights of Mk1s: Golf 2 door 51kW - 800kg Golf 2 door 81/82kW - 840kg Golf 2 door auto - 830kg Golf 4 door 51kW - 825kg Golf 4 door auto - 855kg Golf convertible - 940kg Scirocco (manual) - 800kg Scirocco (auto) - 825kg Unsure if wet or dry, etc, these are typed in from Haynes.
The Mk2 appears to be a different weight on a different thread: http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112667&page=2 Maybe its just down to different figures with/without 75kg driver, 40kg fuel, etc??? I don't know.
I understand there's a 230hp special edition coming out to celebrate 30 years of the GTi, not sure if you'll get it in the states though.
Good point... maybe UK only ? Official UK imports form 1977 I think, no doubt somebody can check, I'm off to work !
i'm talking about the R GTI... it's got like 400 hp looks likeu mmm this... http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/vortex_news/article_1857.shtml
Mines a 1990 Gti, with a 2.0 16V lump in, i`ve been told it produced 170 BHP & 155 ftlb last time it was on the dyno. Weight is 950kg without fuel or driver, thats stripped and with a cage.
Like this. 850kgs on corner weight scales but now fitted a fibreglass bonnet and removed weight from other places. I had Ian's white MK1 on the scales the same day and the MK2 wass 10kgs lighter.
