Any ideas what economy this 1.9td engine would give when spending most of the time cruising in fifth gear?

Is it a td or tdi?

The TD's according to parkers have an average mpg of 44mpg while the TDI's have 55mpg-not sure how that works to be honest.

I'd expect you crusing at 5th to get aroun 50-60mpg if your frugle with the turbo.

There was an 'umwelt' td with 75 bhp or the tdi with 90 bhp.

Couldn't really see the point of the lesser powered model.

A mate used to have a mk3 golf tdi. It pulled very well and was getting 60+ mpg most of the time.

I went and looked at that Seat 1.9TD in Newbury and put a deposit on it! G-Man, this is all your bloody fault

Car had been kept in a barn for a couple of months. Was completely cold and probably never started over that time but it started immediately and ran fine. Only thing that concerned me was that the oil and coolant LEDs flickered about a bit when it was idle for about a minute after I started it. But drove it around for a while and it was fine. Hoping that was just an electrical problem from being stored. Anyway... all I want is six months out of this thing.

Quite a nice car, actually. Well, you know. For a pipe and slippers car. Has electric everything (some of which even works), PAS that works great. Utterly stupidly large boot to carry loads of crap from the scrapyard. Engine bay looked nice and clean.

Are there any common faults to look out for with these TD engines?

    Sorry for the recommendation [:$]

Well if i see a broken down Seat toledo when driving around, i think i'll know who it is then!

Yeah if it had been stored it'll need a radiator drain and oil change. My mk2 had been SORN off road for 6 months, and I had the oil lights and coolant lights on at the beginning, but once we change the coolant and oil it was fine.

Hope it's all good-how much was it in the end?

    500 quid :)

If it doesn't develop any problems then I reckon it'll have been well worth the money because it's actually quite a tidy car.

    Update:

Just got back home in the 500 quid sh*tter tonight! And it seems okay.

Quite glad I have a diesel now to be honest, with all the silly fuss over fuel at the moment.

    :)

So cheers again mate, and remember: it's your fault.

I thought I was going to be able to tax the car online tonight but, because the vehicle details will have changed, I cannot.

Wanted to drive it tomorrow [:x]

diesel really is the way to go for a cheap car thats economical I reckon. I'm hooked. 600 miles to a tank in mine. And it regularly survives being driven with no oil, water or air in the tyres when my gf forgets to touch it for weeks on end . the only thing that killed it was when we ran out of diesel because we forgot we actually had to put any in it, it had been so long!
