    Hi all

I've finished putting my 16v back together, but cannot get her to fire.

I finally traced the problem (next in a series of many) to no fuel coming out of the injectors. There is fuel coming in to the metering head and there is fuel pressure at the cold start valve. I checked these by loosening the bolts.
When I loosened the bolts on top of the metering head that feed the fuel injector lines, there is no pressure. If I take the bolt right out, I can see fuel. If I then crank the engine over with the bolt in, but loose, no fuel comes out.

There have been one or two random spurts of fuel from the injectors, but I have no idea why.

Any ideas on what to check would be great. I've tried searching but can't find anything.

    Thanks

i think theres a little filter basket in the main line into the metering head that might be blocked??

Try jumpering the fuel pump relay, then lifting the metering flap by hand and see if they squirt.

Take out the relay, then put a bit of wire between the two switched terminal sockets where the relay used to be. It should turn the fuel pump on full time.

Cool, thanks. When it stops raining while I'm at home I'll give it a bash.

Sometimes the control plunger in the centre of the metering head gets stuck and stops fuel flowing to the injectors, sometimes a gentle tap on the top with a blunt object is all that is needed.....

When I rebuilt my engine I could hear the pump working but no fuel coming from injectors - turned out it was only the intank fuel pump that was working the main pump had a bad earth so wasnt functioning.

If the main pump doesnt run it wont build anywhere near enough pressure to spray out the injectors.

Tested it today, and it's definitely the metering head. It's quite gunked up too.

I have a spare one which I'll try at some point.

I have, however, managed to knock off a connection somewhere that is preventing the fuel pump running now. I have power to the relay, but not to the fuse. :(
I think it happened when I took off the fuse box to trace the problem under the bonnet.

Anyone have any idea what colour wires I should be checking for the fuel pump?

So if I have power to the relay but not to the fuse, would that suggest the relay is the problem?

power to the relay comes from elswhere what you need to test is power FROM the relay pin 87 if thres a live feed on that pin you should check to see then if you have a live feed to fuse,id replace the fuse anyway somtimes they look ok but are faulty

Looks like it's the relay. Pin 87 won't go live.

    relay socket pinout:
    2 - ign live
3 - trigger from ecu, should earth briefly when ign turned
4 - output to fuel pump
    6 - permanent live

To test if the pump works run a trigger wire from pin 3 to pin 6, this should make the pump run. Check for ign live at pin 2, and check you get continuity to earth when the key is turned briefly at pin 3 :)
