to be honest I think you're best off going under one of your parents names as a 2nd driver.

the money you'll save that way will be worth more than the no claims bonus at your age. then once you have been driving a couple of years get your own polocy & start building up the no claims.

not strictly true, one of my mates went on his dads insurance for 2 years, then he bought a mk3 rover 200 with a turbo conversion, mgzr everything, leather interior (you get the picture)potentially a gp18 car, paid 1400 tpft, un garaged with no ncb.

whereas another mate with the 200 coupe (turbo) paid the exact same with 2 yrs ncb [:s]

anbd as haysey says, the amount of money saved on your parents is enough to compensate for having no ncb in a couple of years time.....

My advice would be not to get a Golf as a first car, go get yourself a polo coupe, much more pocket freindly :)

If you get insured for less than 800 on any car at 17 I'd be surprised.

First time drivers - they like f*cking you over. [:s]

Thought I recognised the car from when it was featured in The Golf years ago.

I was once going to get a 1990 Alfa 33 1.7 clover leaf for my first car, till i got a 7000 quote

Try insuring in your name with one of your parents as a named driver.
My missus gets her insurance cheaper if i'm on as a named driver.

go to footman james, they are the only company that will insure 17 yr olds on classic car policy.

    ive got a 1979 mk2 escort 1300cc, fully comp for 850

i have had my licence for 2 months, and im 17. i live in a catagory 5 area (highest group for car crime etc) i am a student. i have done pass plus aswell, but i dont think they take this into consideration.
