Guess we'll have to compare the quaife in my mk1 when it's on the road with yours Mart! If they feel similar I'll get one for the VR!
We plan to get one of these for the V5 box in the Mk3 VR6 racecar. Had a discussion with Mart sometime ago about this. Will let you know how we get on with it when we are back on track next season.
Seems the diffs now fit in the boxes ok but, the drive stubs need a little fettling to sit in the right place. Not a major headache by any means.
do these units hold up? worth the money and hassle mounting them? considering to buy one for the jetta. what needs to be changed before fitting?
I know of several holding up fine with no running issues. Again, they need fettling a little to get in but, after that are ok. There is someone on the mk1 forum who has had a bad experience although he didn't build the box, and has no pictures of the damage but, neither does he know if it was built correctly. Having seen quite a few units and done a hardness test on the planet gears then there shouldn't be an issue. Last one I fitted had already been used but was still a little wide for the casing and was on very top preload after some fettling so check before fitting any bearings etc.
