Thought id update this first page to directly reflect changed events. Updates are in ().

Ok guys, calling on some VR6 and K-Jet knowledge here.

I have the chance at a B4 Passat VR6 with a nearly new engine (about 39k miles) thats too good an opportunity to miss.
My car currently has the ABF with 56k miles running on K-Jet.

Can anyone see any problems with swapping the engine from my car into the passat? I'd then sell the Passat as a 2.0 16v, meaning i get a cheap conversion.

(Engine is no longer going in passat, but im selling it as a Mk2 Conversion now to make things faster and easier)

In addition to this, can anyone suggest what else i would need apart from the Passat VR6 parts to carry out my conversion?

(I need a Mk3 Golf Subframe, Corrado VR6 Rad & Fans, DeCat Pipe)

    Thanks! [:D]

nothing, i even think your mk2 subframe would just bolt upto the passat, so you shouldn't even need to get another subframe to use on your mk2

You could even keep your seat mechanism so you wouldn't need to get another pedal box and hydraulic parts for the golf.

Yeah, thought about that Stef. Looks like its going to be an easy conversion, and the Passat could have hydraulic gearbox on the 16v lump instead.

What about K-Jet being put into the Passat though?

    What else will i need?

Corrado VR6 Rad + Fans, much else? I'll run an induction kit to save hassle of airbox.

yes should be an easy conversion, the passat uses a wider subframe than the Golf so not sure if you could do a direct swap

Are you running a cable or hyd clutch on your Golf ?

the passat doesn't run a wider subframe though, i am sure its the same width and the same as the mk3/corrado one.
As the one on my mk2 at the minute supposedly came from a passat and bolted up with no problems. It will be the wishbones that make the stance of the car wider if it is.
I'm off to check my ekta

Thats how i understand it. To go for plus suspension set ups you only change the wishbones.

With regards to clocks and MFA functions, i would like the Passat to be as complete a car as possible afterwards, and naturally the same for my Mk2.
Does anyone know the best method for going about getting fully functional clocks in both cars?

Im running the full SEAT set up on my car Andy, which means cable change gearbox with cable clutch. I can swap the mechanism over from the 02A gearboxes no problem, so i dont need to mess with my pedal box and fit hydraulics.

To get it fully functional, simply remove everything from each respective car and re-fit to the other car.

Its not gonna be hard :)

    Now thinking out loud.......

Its only the rev counter that will be an issue, it 'may' be possible to swap the rev counters in the clocks to keep it all original looking :)

are you sure you can swap cable and hyd mechanisms on the gearbox?

as for the dash clocks your going to have to buy replacement clocks for both cars, you can't expect a 6cyl clock to suddenly work as a 4 cyl

Andy (Jettaman) yeah mechanisms are interchangeable from what i understand. Never done it, but they are both 02A gearboxes.

Andy (947) clocks is my main concern really. Things like the MPG on the Passat clocks are ECU controlled.

Passat 16v clocks into the Passat?

What would be the best clocks for the Golf? Use the existing Passat VR6 clocks? Or will i need something else, as ill want the ECU MFA functions working.

yes the passat clocks are the best option for the Golf but the trouble is getting them to pysically fit as there a lot wider, not sure if the Mk3 vr6 clocks are compatable or not

Yeah, fit some 16v passat clocks, or even 8v ones jus to get it running.

For the MK2 dont use the passat ones, the lcuster is way too long. You'll need to make some MK3 VR6 dials fit in behind the dash. :)
