    Gutted.

You don't seem to hear of them completely blowing up like this too often!

But it's a piece of pіss to obtain and fit a new PB engine.

get a good secondhand engine!!! 80 and a day to fit.

i actually have one here, delivery possible also. slight plug for my goodies - i have history for it and head was done 1 year ago, new oil pump, cam belt, leads, plugs, clutch, sump and gasket. rocker cover gasket - never used oil or water. car wrote off by a moron reason for selling

and edit - trev, replaced one for a mate last year with identical hole on no3 cylinder. basically threw a rod - generally a string engine.

Yeah it wont be hard to fit a new engine, especially if its just a like for like swap as you have all the other bits you need like alternator, manifolds etc

Or as said, maybe its a good time to go for a 2L lump!

Are 16v pistons the same aswell...cos I have a set of them you can ave aswell...maybe different though. its 7 years since I built an 8v.

I dont want anything for them so cheaper than an engine from a scrapper if you can blag some rods from somewhere.

the back of no 1 cylinder has been completly blown out....
something hit the front of the sump too but didnt puncture it
it punched a massive hole behind the rear engine mount bracket which it also destroyed.
found massive lumps of engine casing sitting on the lower arm this morning....

    :o

im living on the new royal park housing estate which is between the total garage on the A45 and royal oak industrial estate

it would be much simpler to put another PB engine in, not sure if im capable of slapping the 2L bottom end on the digi head
....will my current head be damaged? so can i just take the engine out and put a 2E bottom on it with new oil pump, original flywheel etc?

removed all the driveshaft flange bolts...i think i have to remove the passenger side shaft completly for ease of access? whipped the alternator off too... engine bay looking less cluttered already, disconnected all the wiring and labelled it so i dont get lost!

do i need a special tool for the exhaust manifold bolts or should i disconnect it further down and pull the engine out the front instead of through the bonnet? any tips?
Ian dont suppose you have an engine crane i could borrow for a day sometime for a 24pack of beer?
guess ill be visiting HSS if not....can it be lifted by two blokes if i take the gearbox off first? or is it over 120kg?

16v pistons are very different - not sure about the rods.

Go 2.0 if you can find one, as you need a new lump anyway. I nearly bought one from Rocco2Litre on here a few months ago - he might still have it.

I wouldn't pay more than 50 for a decent 2.0 bottom end, and maybe a ton for the whole engine. The same or less for a 1.8.

bobby hill - what are you wanting for your engine? My clutch has started slipping on my 8v hack and thinking I might just replace the entire engine as it will be the same price as doing the clutch.
