Radiator for Mk1 on carbs/ITB's

    Two things,

    1. The audi 80 rad looks good, turned 90 deg it will be plenty big enough and be pretty much right for out lets and thermo switch. I would emagine the depth of the core will be a big influence on the cooling effect.

    2. I have keeped the oringinal 16v radiator but have modified the lower rad mounting cross bar, dropping the whole rad down by around 2-3", gives me a channel of nice cool air aimed right at the ITB's inlets. It's always an idea!

EDIT This was on a MK2 so more room, but the principle is the same.

When i was going to fit throttle bodies to mine i looked at all the options and as above decided the best option was to keep original rad but lower mounting and move it forward. if its then moved right over the passenger side and a single h/light grille used there is room for a cold air feed on the driver side of radiator.

Rad swap this weekend just gone (1.2/1.4 8v Corsa B '94-'01):

Carb manifold back off and Corrado rad removed.

Corrado rad (rear), Corsa rad (front).

    Comparison in the car.

Bottom rad hose made from Corsa hose and standard lower hose from pump.

Hmm, not a great deal of room for a 13 row oil cooler, hope it will fit.

Grille back on, may use a twin light grille without the spot lamps to aid cooling. Or, cut more of the grille lines out where they are blanked off on a single light centre section.

Radiator not as far forward as most fit their's but should be ok? At least it's sorted my clearance with the big filters. (Rad isn't secured at the top yet but it can be moved in further)

Probably best of getting a custom core and ends made for an application like that. I think 'Dub Nutta' had one made not all that long ago for his KR on throttle bodies, cant remember where he had it made off hand but there must be a fair few places out there that can do the job to fit the requirements you need.

Its a PACE one its off Benny's MK1

Same type that ADY uses in his 20v MK1 and what Mark Elliott used to have when he ran in his MK1 when it was on carb's many years ago.

    Pro Alloy do them also.

Is the Pace one available off the shelf, or done to a customer spec with mounting points?

I'm curious on dimensions - I've got infinity's old one, but it's uncomfortably close to the underside of the fibreglass airbox, so any engine rock would interface it.

I saw someone selling a radiator on here not so long ago that was advertised as being ideal for running throttle bodies, i think it was from a cavalier

*edit* it was sambo selling it, was a diesel vauxhall radiator with cosworth slimline fans
