Very soon im changing my turbo and exh manifold set up, going with tubular top mount manifold, GT3076R, external wastegate If i can afford it i am thinking of going aftermarket management same time I want to be able to have 2 maybe 3 maps on the car, for various uses like street driving on pump fuel, track driving on pump fuel and water/meth and finally qtr mile driving on race fuel plus Nitrous What management would be suitable for that? Also would love to have features such as launch control, flat shifting etc as well as few spare inputs for possible control over things like haldex Any recomendations for resonable money? Unfortunetly Ecu-s like Pectel are out of my range
Dta good emerald good meagsquirt good question is whos gonna fit it and map it ? does it need to be cheap and user friendly?
sounds like emerald may be a good option, not sure about launch etc. I'm running omex and having different maps done, it literally takes 2 minutes to upload a different map from a laptop.
Yep, Emerald seem to have switchable multi maps, but I don't know if this is a toggle switch or a laptop job. DTA don't. Motec and other high end may also have multi maps. The process of uploading maps can be a nuisance - fire up computer, lead on. I used to have a road map, but I can't be bothered at the moment.
K3 is not that hot to be honest, not sure on the new one the K6, dont know much about it Megasquirt not my cup of tea Omex may be an option if it supports my other requirements I will be installing it, not sure on mapping yet, got few options
omex deffo runs anti lag, launch and full throttle shift. i'm running these on mine. also got cooling fan output ant vvt control.
im using the emerald K3 ecu have been since late 07 an its run spot on not one hick up, i have 2 swichable maps to... might be worth giving them a ring to see what the K6 is caperble of doing?...
Phatty has a Motec M800 ECU worth having a word with him not fitted yet but does all the functions you require. expensive but nothing is cheap these days. http://www.motec.com.au/m800/m800overview/
Was always wary of boost control with beign unreliable as have heard from people who reported overboost on few ocasions?
Not clued up on E85 Gary, once red up on it and list of things that could be unsuitable for E85 such as various grades of seals, fuel pumps, fuel lines... ect it confused the hell out of me Also reason why i'm want to get rid of ME7 is need for multi maps, ease of mapping and getting rid of stupid unreliable MAF But its certantly something to look into, over on a forum back home there is a guy running 2.0l B.T. Opel Kaddet on E85 with 600+ Bhp, and 10 sec qtrs
ive not herd of anything bad about them, aslong as the ecu is mapped correctly an everything is working then it should'nt overboost...
all down to how the boost is programmed to be controlled, be it fixed duty cycle on a map, or requested boost (subject to pid tuning of the control)
Phatty has the M600. I was thinking about buying it for my Audi. I have the M48 on my VR6 and its been fantastic.
I've only have experience with the Emerald! I have and early K6 with K3 firmware and have just fitted ITB's to an Elise. It does everything you want and more. I found it excellent for on the road tuning. Within 1/2 hour i was able to get my mates Elise running much better than a standard Lotus Exige S1 (similar spec) at low revs (<3500) and low speed cruising (<80 mph). Thus, all normal driving conditions. You can switch between 3 maps via a dash mounted potentiometer -> one of the analogue inputs. It also has exhaust temperature monitoring using VW temp sensors. You can also calibrate all sensor inputs individually. However, getting the most out of your engine setup will be more determined by how well you set the throttles, cam overlap, ignition timing, wide-band Lambda (for your fuel type), etc, etc than the type of ECU IMO.
