Sorry guys! Been far too busy to keep you up-dated on progress. Had the past four days off work workin none stop pretty much, only really stopping to see the gf have the occasional pint and pop up the cgti oxford meet! Anyway, it photobucket ever finishes up loading I should have some pictures for you! Things have changed quite drastically since my last pics; Shell has been painted n pretty much finished. Still f**kin around with boot and bonnet, but with a cut back tomorrow they should be done! Just need a bit more paint as I used it all up and door can be donedid! Wehay! There done! current state of shell, arches and grill refitted (bumper isn't bolted on if it looks crooked) Doors awaiting another coat!
The finish looks spot on You should have covered your wheels though, those sportline ra's fetch quite a bit on ebay.
Just about done!! Thought id get some nice pictures of for yas all!!! Just need a good clean now and its finished, but the cant wait for a minute or two!! im completely golfed out!! Have learn't alot from doing this all myself, would advice you guys to try it, if its needed!! Saved myself a shed load of money and although its not perfect, it ain't half bad!! Edited by: RicRhind
i was lucky.... a guy i knew was emigrating, and sold me the the compressor (which is massive) for 50 quid!!! I got it a while back when i used the run about in beetles. Got the rest of the equipment guns hoses etc then. Its not to expensive really. Probally spent 250 max on paints and stuff for this job. I'd say the most important thing you need when spraying is patience!! Thats is!
ric i found a computer out here in the south of france as i wanted to see the pics! it looks dead good! look forward to seeing it when i get back!
ric in what proportions did you dilute your paint with thinners?? Also did you laquer or are you just polishing the topcoat?? should be doing my own car soon. Ro
Yeah!!! You should bro, it really isn't that hard. Prperation is the key!! The proportions should be 50/50 but i didn't ever mix exact. You soon get used to the viscosity you need. When mixing your paint if you take your sturer out of the pot, it should run for a couple of seconds then start to dip, when its right. But it dont really matter, if its thin, it will spray thin, if its thick it will spray thick, but you will use more paint. If you know what i mean. But you can spray with it thin, and then spray at a lower pressure and vice versa. Used standard thinners for undecoat and premium stuff for top coat. I didnt laqure it. What i did was rub it down once finished with 1500 grade wet n dry, cut it back with t-cut then polished! Tis apparently what they used to do in the olden days!! works a treat!! Edited by: RicRhind
