No that wont be enough to get it spot on. I can plainly see the wheels on my cabby are off centre becasue the cbore is too big on the wheels.

Yep, likewise I can vouch for the bolt necks not quite getting it spot on => vibration + => trouble

Even worse with non-hub centric spacers also.

plus without the hubcentric you put a shearing load on the bolts which could make the bolts break

And the vibration can only accelerate those shear forces

Personally, I don't think it is a major problem, other than making it difficult to line them up. I've been wheels with a larger centre bore on one of my cars for a while now, with no vibration or anything.

Here's one to think about too - Did you know Mazda used to make cars with their wheel centres larger than the hubs.....

Yes and so did the beetle, the difference is the manufacturer designed it that way...
It doesn't mean that you should go doing the same thing on your own car. Basically if you get the wheel SPOT ON then its not a problem, but getting it exactly in the centre isnt easy, and its definitly not worth the risk when you can get a set of spiggot rings for 20!

I can't find my vernier calipers at the moment. when I do I'll get sizes. cheers.

I got the new tyres fitted to the existing wheels in the end.
