I have never used this stuff or felt the need. I was chatting to a mate about this stuff and he said at work they just ensure the two metals are really clean and then treat it after the welding with paint etc. Seeing as his work including welding at power stations and I taken as read he knew his stuff :)

Had one of those days today when everything took longer than it should. Got the scuttle panel welded back in around the new brace bar. Took a few little patches to seal it all back up. I know a lot of people cut out the scuttle, but I like the idea of leaving the firewall in there, so I've put it back.

So.. washed the wax off the engine bay with thinners, primed the bare bits, and smeared a bit of seam sealer around the place. Sound paint was scotchbrited down, and then painted the bay with 2-pack, Ford Transit Diamond White. Looks good if you don't look too close - ideal viewing distance is 10 feet or more, so you don't see the runs in the paint. It'll be fine once the engine's in there, but I did try to go a bit too fast, and put too much paint on in one coat... hence the runs.

While I was waiting for some primer to dry, I started making the rear engine mount. This is made from a spare couple of inches of Chrome Moly 1.5" 16SWG tube, and some Mk2 escort poly bushes from the neighbours.

    - Measure the length of tube needed, cut and de-burr, fit the bushes with lithium grease.
    - Cut a length of some 10mm ID tube I bought ages ago from B&Q, for the inner sleeve of the bush. De-burr. It's mild steel, so will need to be kept well greased.
    - Drilled out the center of the bush to 12mm to fit the inner sleeve pipe.

I'll weld a couple of 'ears' to the front strut brace, and bolt the bush between them.

More to follow, but the engine needs to be fitted to measure up. Haven't completely figured out the front bracket bits yet, but will probably be somewhere around the exhaust manifold on runner No.4

    - shown with the spare poly bushes next to it.
