    Right then.

To my dissapointment after putting so much work into my 1.8T setup, im 90% sure the crank has seized on me [8(]

We have tried everything to free it, even towed it and tried to jump the engine, but the front wheels just lock up when put in gear.

Is there any way of freeing up a seized engine ?

Ive tried pouring oil down over the cams with the cam cover off, but it didn't free anything up ?

Engine wont turn by hand either ?

Could a dodgy gearbox cause this ? Then again we have towed it in neutral with no problems! It only locks when put in gear.

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers. Rich

What bolts did you use to attach the clutch pressure plate? If you used the dual mass ones they will be too long and locking the crank to the block and main bearing cap.

Can you drop the box off and see if there's anything obvious? Easier than taking the whole engine out.

Sounds like an idea Sparrow

Im just awaiting my lock up garage door to be fixed, as my Mk2 is currently on the driveway.

As soon as i get it back in there, i'll whip the gearbox off and see if anythings up, as all my tools are in my lockup!

Is there anything else to look out for ?

    Check the cam timing marks.

And on that note another thing is the 4 crank pulley bolts. Did you have them off? It is possible for them to be too long and lock the crank by jamming on the oil seal casing.

Yea it was fine Collie.

I set the timing when i fitted the new belts ect ect. This was a month before putting the engine and gearbox together.

Since its been mated, the engine just wont turn over!

These bolts were not touched Dan. The engine came with a new timing belt, i just fitted the tensioners, water pump ect.

It was turning freely as i set the timing :)

Agree, I just cant see it being the engine. Drop the box and flywheel and check its ok.
When you try to start it again, Take the fuel pump relay out and turn it over a few times to get the oil around it, Then pop the relay back in and fingers crossed:thumbup:

    Thanks for the info

As soon as i can get the MK2 back in my lock up (new door being fitted atm), i'll take the g-box off and see whats going on.

As you said Mat, i doubt its the engine - hopefully!
Will definitely crank it with the relay taken out.

I'll update as soon as i can. Cheers

Im sure the clutch plate only goes on one way, as it has to line up with the 6 bolts and its metal gasket. Then fitted the rounded plate which is held in by the clip.

Friction disc only goes on one way. I made sure this was centralised when bolting the flywheel to the clutch plate. I also made sure the friction disc fitted the spline on the gearbox before fitting it altogether.
