Fingers crossed it's something silly. [:^(] But I would never advise bump starting a car if it won't turn over!
Can't understand why the crank would seize? Was it just a clutch job you did? One way to find out is by taking off the sump and inspecting the bearings.
Ill second that also ive had blocks left out in the garden with no sump on and they still hav'nt seized.
Like I said we had one with it in the wrong way, admittedly it was a mazda, but it was was properly seized. Just a thought, can't really see what else it can be....either way the box needs to come out!
Right guys, i decided to take the engine out again today. I removed the flywheel and friction disc and all was well there. Then i remembered this from a previous thread i started - I managed to clean it all out and guess what, i could turn the engine over by hand. So, i thought all was well and decided to re-fit the engine and gearbox back in. Linked up all the wiring and guess what what, i still wouldn't turn over Ive been round the lock up all day doing this!! What the hell is going on ???
Looks like the engine may be ok Was turning ok when i cleaned the valves out. Flywheel looks ok. The engine turns by hand fine with it on. ?? Engine turns by hand fine with the starter on Matt. Could the starter not be powerfull enough to turn the engine ? Maybe a MK3 one would be an option ?
Did you try turning it over when the gearbox was removed but with the flywheel and clutch still bolted on? Edit: too slow
looking back at post #16 it would not turn with starter on now it is and not seized thought you turned it over at the crank pulley any whay so result. you not wired the starter wrong or burned it out it now sounds electrical as all is moving.
The starter is wired in ok. Could be on its last legs though tbh. It was quite loud cranking when it was on the 8v. I wonder if a new one would sort it out ?
have you tried turning the engine over by by-passing the starter solenoid if not try that. then if the starter still doesnt work whip it out , check the starter on the bench.
Reminds me of the good old days when we used to start cars with screwdrivers dont forget to have the ignition on
Cheers for that Collie I have had the starter out of the gearbox on the side and it was spinning and working as it should. Maybe it just hasn't got enough power to turn over the 20v ?
Yes this is all fine but dont overlook the fact you couldn't get the engine turning when you were towing it in gear!! Did you try it in a high enough gear - ie at least 3rd? (and deffo not reverse!)
