any ideas where i could get a decent 5 or 6 speed sequencial gear box for my mk1 gti i will also need one for a 20v turbo cnversion ive got coming up
there was a company or two looking at a sequential shift style mechanism but not the same as a sequential barrel shift box. However you'll still need to use a clucth though tt
I have seen servo'd clutches if its a problem with the weight of operation? No idea how they work in practice but doesnt the Reeves' racer have one?
ok thanks for the replys i actually cant physically use a clutch pedal my left leg dont work after braking my back and im not giving up my custom dubs
Consider a motability add on to the gear lever. Maurice Reeves had one of these on his for a while.. Worth a try. You will need a clutch on sequential shifter even Quaife full on (10K) jobbie or with seqshift type lever. Optional synchro or dogbox but both will need clutch operation. www.seqshift.com for the lever type sequential like #I run on my dog box. regards bill
What about a DSG? `box out of an Audi (if you can find one at the breakers?) Supposed to be the best paddle gearchange you can get (but may be a bit tricky to wire in?)
if i were to get a lever on top of the gear cchange could it be used with my existing box ? Edited by: mk1 dubba
Ok what ab out a different approach. On a motorbike you operate the clutch with your left hand. Could a pully system or some sort of servo assist system be made so that you could mount a handle on the gear stick that would pull the clutch in as you change gear. Or you could mount it on the steering wheel. That would be a hell of a lot cheaper than a sequential box. Or off course just go automatic, but thats the no fun approach
In essence, the Reeves system is the 'motorbike lever' except it needs a bit of power assistance to depress a clutch, hence an electric motor with a cable, actuated by a lever on the gearknob. Yes you can use it with a standard gearbox - the only function of this device is to depress the clutch pedal, thus everything else remains as it was. mk1 dubba - I've PM'd you. Chris
chris eye ive not recieved a pm (just looked) so a reeves setup would be just like a normal clutch but hand operated how much would a setup like that cost
anyone any links to websites selling a push button clutch for the gear nob or similar tried google but cant find anything
how do they release the clutch progressivly for creeping along in traffic or hill starts? Alright, different theory. feel free to knock it down... Use a hydraulic cluth from a mk3 or later and run a hand lever to a master cylinder with a small vaccum servo (like the brakes) You could operate it all from a motorcycle lever on the gear stick, with bowden cable to the M/C.... needs drawing up to think it over properly.
