phat I do love your reasoning. making it look older than it is = crap, making it look newer than it is = crap  Agree with that 100%.

I'm thinking I prefer rallye bumpers to them all , how long before we see rallye bumpered mk2s? [:s]

    Keep up Jeff. It's:-

    Arguing with me = wrong
Just admitting that I'm right = right
    :p ;) :p

It's the idea behind it that gets me. If you want your mk2 to look like a CL, then go BUY a f*cking CL in the first place. If you want big bumpers, then buy a 1989-> mk2. Simple as that. Why waste time and money painting a 1990 after taking the arches off?? I don't get it? do people just love wasting time and money or what?

I rarely see 90' spec GTI's at shows these days. This 'retro' balls is taking over, it's getting to epidemic proportions. So much so that if I see an unmolested big bumper mk2 in the town it makes me look twice as it's so rare to see them!

That blue Jetta is basically late GL spec, but with the front and rear spats colour coded for some reason, doesn't really work.

And as for mk2's with standard arches but wide wheels....please....it looks sh1t, you're not fooling anyone, get em rolled or fit the plastic trims back on, that's what they're there for.

perhaps they want them to look like cl's but go like gti/vr etc etc

its gotta be easier to make a gti look like a cl than a cl go/handle/stop like a gti [:s] [:s]

wasnt it the GL that came with chrome, not the CL? :p And the point, surely, is that for some people, who want their GTI to look that way, its easier for them to do body mods to a GTI than it is to put a GTI engine in a CL? VR6 conversions, that would make sense.

    my sentiments exactly

I bought a gti, and got sick of attracting attention from the kiddies so I pulled all the plastic tat off it and it all stopped. Also, I happen to like the early ones with chrome bits, 1/4 lights and lots of slats on the grille, they were the ones I saw when I first wanted a mk2 back in 84. I like big bumpers, dont get me wrong but I prefer very subtle cars, I would never pull a '90 spec to bits and fit CL bits I just wouldnt buy one...
