ok, im all for stretched tyres, i have 205/40's on my 9j borbets, simply because they wont fit under the arches otherwise, and yeah, it looks good when the tyre barely fits under the arch

but recently more and more, people are going a bit crazy over the stretched look, asif you need stretched tyres on a 6j ffs whats going on?!

my car handles bad enough as it is with 205's but people are fitting 165's and smaller with low profiles just to get the 'stretched look'

these kind of rediculous skinny tyres are going to end up putting lots of cars in ditches in the name of fashion, and see new laws put in place to ban wide wheels altogether

stretch is about putting wheels that are much too wide for the car on, not just having angular tyres[:s]

    just... why?!!!![><]

    rant over[:$]

I thought it all started with the drifters of way back when.

Easier to break traction and what not.

Can't wait to see a mk1 mr2 on 6j with ultra stretched tyres going sideways

    Fashion over function.

Guy with a Corrado I know - it looks like a road roller ffs, don't know why people don't just fit beer barrels with the tyres painted on as wheels and have done with it.

i had no end of trouble trying to get a smaller tyre on my bbs rims. big tyre companys dont really like fitting a small tyre on a big rim. but i manged to find a small company that were happy to help. + the streched look does look pretty sweet.!!

It is dangerous, which is why most garages wont fit them!!

You can actually get tyres that give the "stretched look", but actually fit propperly. Had some on a white mk2 8v I owned for all of 6 weeks. Think they were Falcon's....

Personally give me some good quality tyres, the right size, and a nice long flat twisty road to sink my teeth into. I like my car to handle, looking good is just the upside of it.

Hi everyone sorry for the necropost but I need some advice, if I may. I picked up some 9J rims with stretched 205/45 tyres and I just want to know if there's anything in particular I should bear in mind, like the tyre pressures or .. I don't know really. I guess I'm mainly unsure about what pressure I should be using. Is standard okay or do they need to be higher? I found that three of the tyres were at around 40-45psi and one was at 20...

The fronts are now at 29-30 and the rears to 35psi, which is what's recommended inside the fuel flap for a full load.

Please don't slate me I think they look cool, and I'm not ever going to a track any time soon. I do however take fairly heavy loads...

Has anyone got suggestions/pointers/advice, besides hang myself for selling out?

Wow, forgot I even posted this [:p]

Stretched tyres have a tendancy to not seat properly on the bead and leak, people put higher pressures in them to keep them seated, I've read some people running 60+psi in them - as if the loss of traction wasn't bad enough anyway... [8-}]

I just stick to about standard pressures.

I must confess one of my Borbets now has a 195/45 on it (because I couldn't afford a new tyre and my mate had a couple in his garage) it grips + looks terrible!

driving a car is more fun than looking at one. So I can't see the point in doing one single thing to a car that makes it look better but drive worse
