mmmmmmmmm I reakon I'll see what space is like with my current set up in there once I pick up me new motor.

I have a 12" ported at the moment.

Will have to see what happens, if I just do the wiring a bit better this time, it should be ok.

    thanks for ya help.

Just to reinforce what Matt 82 has said ............... good components in the front , a sub in the boot and the factory fit rears for a bit of rear fill. Run the fronts and the sub off an amp and enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Forget about any 6x9 or 7x10 and sub on the shelf nonsense.

simple basically is best, by best i mean best sounding (most realistic, most accurate sounding). sound from behind you is pretty much a waste of time if you actually want a good sound (go do a google search on the definition of hifi...) the reason a sub goes nicely in the boot is that lower frequecies are harder to pinpoint directionally, so hence doesnt muck the sound up.

Also.. you cant just stick any old sub on the shelf.. it needs to be a free air type.

    Where are you based?

Your local ICE shop should be able to build you a moulded sub enclosure for about 250 that will tuck in nicely into the side well of the boot leaving max space.

If you are near west london.. I can do it for you.

The JL stealh boxes are about 500.

    Wow, my thread got resurected!

Now had my new golf for about a month now I'm finding the standard sound system quite ample. As standard it came with rear speakers too, so unless I turn the tunes up to a silly level, it's pretty damn good.

First upgrade when i have some dosh again will be a head unit with USB input, after that I might change the components for something slightly better.

    Thanks for everyones help.
