I used to weld baffle plates into my old 205 (but I had copied the genuine PTS version). Does anyone know of a recommended sump baffle, or have any pictures / drawings of how to fabricate one / roughly where to position the plates? Also - how good is the windage tray? I haven't seen one with my own eyes yet,but someone mentioned that it was an attempt at baffling / dry sumping, any ideas or advice?

Mine is pretty similar to those in that link but with a trap door in the plate at the narrower end of the sump.

The windage tray is an off the shelf item from GSF or VW, it is for a Mk3 Diesel Golf....I think GSF call it a restrictor plate if you are trying to get one.

I've got a brand new never raced or rallied windage tray in stock (with the longer bolts it needs too!) Drop me a line if you need it.

Are the windage trays any good - I've only seen a photo of one.

I'm sure this was covered in a thread i started but it seems to have gone.
Some one on here (can't remember who) offered to weld in the plated for 20 if you send him your sump.

I think that may have been Marshy, or one of the Bristol crew who offered to weld in some baffles for someone if I remember right.

I`ve got a Schrick alloy sump if you want it. It`s got baffles and also a windage tray. They were fitted but never filled with oil. PM if you`re interested!

Went to baffle my sump today and noticed i can't get to all the bolts, how do you take the sump off? do you need to move the gear box out the way?

take off the little metal plate thats in your way, i think its just a little cover for part of the clutch.. not too difficult.

Yep take the thin lower g/box / clutch plate cover off then you should be able to get to the other bolts to take your sump off.

They are still a little awkward I seem to remember but with a small socket set & a wobble bar kind of setup its do-able.

DOH! when i was under the car i had a look at taking that plate off but from were i was looking (about and inch from my nose) it looked like it was part of gearbox. So this is good news, so when i do my next oil change i'll whip it off and baffle it.
