I was just looking at that pic http://www.brokevw.com/MK2explodedview1.jpg and I started looking at the trans parts spread out, and then built the trans in my head like I would on the bench, and I made note of errors I found...

They show the diff spider gears paired up, each on a shaft, which isn't right. The small gears ride a single shaft, the 2 big gears each get a stub axle, they show one stub axle being used on both big gears (they have a big diff gear where the axle flange should be)... and the other stub axle is missing.

They are also missing one snap ring used to secure the cross shaft and unlike a MK2 trans, they show all 8 rivets being small head, when the MK2 uses 2 large head rivets on each side of the cross shaft (sometimes with snap ring, sometimes not).

Both diff stub axle circlips are missing.

Both bronze tapered conical thrust rings are missing behind the flanges.

The shift forks were taken apart, and then a few pieces put back onto the fork rod, but not all of them, which is just strange. The reverse relay bracket is rigged up to be held together, they have it on its side, and those are 3 different parts, and wouldn't sit like that, they've glued them together or something.

They left the 3/4 sync hub pressed onto the input shaft, and captured by that would have to be 3rd gear, because 3rd isn't on the floor.

The selector detent bolt is missing as well.

They're short one roller bearing, unless it is in the case still.

They're missing the 13mm nut to hold the selector bracket to the selector assembly.

They show 12 of the 14 bolts used around the trans casing, missing the 2 shorter ones under the selector area.

5th gear circlip and washer are missing.

5th gear retention bolt and washer are missing.

    They're short one 17mm drain/fill plug too.

They show the rivets used to secure the ring gear, before they are pressed.... I never knew they were that long before being formed.... neat. Still, it'll fail because it has no bolt kit

They also failed to take apart any of the 3 synchronizer hubs, which each contain 3 keys, and 2 springs.

The selector seal is missing or in the case.

The pushrod seal and bushing are both missing or in the end of the input shaft.

The output shaft thrust washer under 1st gear is missing, or still laying on the shaft, but I think it is missing.

    No 5th fork lock plate.

The 2 springs for the shift fork rod are missing.

I also don't see the reverse idler shaft bolt.

One diff bearing and the shims for it appear to be missing.

I think that is it for the trans stuff.

    [:$]

I just know what's needed to build the 020, it only took about 5 minutes, and I think everyone assumes the pic is every part... clearly it's not. If it is missing that from the trans, other little parts are missing in other areas, I bet.;)

I think that the plastic clips that secure the PAS and fuel hoses are missing.

And R143 on the ECU's PCB is the wrong value.

Is that not a Digi ECU, but it's running K-jet hardware?

Yes, I have seen an exploded MK1, and I heard there is an exploded MK5, and I seem to recall seeing an exploded MK3 I think.

Also, I want to say a Rocco, but I think it is was S1....

I have been thinking about doing a pic like that of just the 020 trans.... but that means laying nice clean new parts out on a sheet, or clean floor somewhere, and seems like it would be a PITA to do.
