It's still not certain, I'm afraid - a week to go, and it's looking a bit tight.

Chris, Craig has my rear beam at the moment and has just done the VWM type bars and towers.

We were looking at the Reeves rear beam pic and noticed the solid bar mounted between the OE diagonal joining bars (Sorry, cant get on photobucket for the pic) and wondered if the Reeves use this instead of the anti roll bar as a type of torsion bar possibly?

Any idea of the theory behind this?

Yes, it's a torsion bar ARB, bolted on.

I struggle with the theory: it is very chunky, and will put a lot of roll resistance into the set up. The car was too oversteery at Spa (see vid) and I have pointed to the ARB, but there's other vast experience way beyond what I know, Trevor citing its merits being mid corner. It's all work in progress still.

When you get yours running, start with an open mind, since everything will be different: bodyshell stiffness, weight of engine, weight of gearbox, rear beam links, levels of power etc. Front spring rates will go up.

Mine has even needed an increase on front springs, just to cater for the increased weigtht of the 16V head and increased cable gearbox weight.

    Thanks for that.

I would say you are right there and that possibly he would have had less oversteer removing the torsion bar completely or replacing with ARB. It seems to corner so flat in the dry and has to be one of the only MK1's that seems to do so and I suspect its got a lot to do with that rear beam setup.

I am going to get the beam re coated now and run the ARB I already have and make up a bolt in bar at a later date and test it before I go out next year.

Agree 100% with the development thing, I hope to be finished the main build before the end of this year then have 4 months to fine tune everything before the 1st event. I have absolutely no idea of how the car is going to drive now!

To quote from a Maurice Reeves interview I did for Club GTI's Rabbit magazine (edn. 69, 2003)

    "No! No spring rates!"

Sure, Velly posted it in Oz

No plans at the moment - can't see how to top that Spa one, so it'll do for now!

The idea gets floated from time to time.

The wear and tear would be fairly high, because of the number of hard brakes per lap, though I'll be the first to put a camera in it, if it does

    Chris,

Yet another appreciative viewer saying thanks for your time into this; took me a while to get around to running it / them though :)

Hugely contrasting impressions of speed between in - car Spa and the fateful CC so hats off to a plucky passenger

Scary CC footage of that EVO incident; that response crew performance [:s]
