How do you get them to stay in place as your putting the wheel on? Just bought some 5mm spacers for mine, theyre on, but after a lot of struggling to get them to remain in place so its symmetrical around the hub as i put the wheel on... i ended up using a bit of tape to hold them in place. And the spigot rings dont sit very much on the centre of the hub anymore, ony by 1 or 2mm at the most, as its on the edge. What do you guys do to solve these probs?
Its a mad struggle. A bit of copper grease to hold it in place but makes a mess. Also you can juggle with the wheel while putting fingers through the spokes the move the spacer around and then use an extention bar with a socket to fit one wheel bolt. Fit all the wheel bolts and tighten as much as poss before putting the car back on the ground. Really its better to buy tailored spacers that fit your car properly but they are very expensive.
yeah a bit of grease holds them in place usually just long enough to get the wheel on......pain in the arse tho
ok... so not an exact science then... what about the spigot rings? thy dont sit nicely on the hub obviously any more, mine is ever so slightly on it...
If you tighten the wheel bolts equally, the wheel should self centre. Doesnt inspire confidence but i have ha no problems yet...
Have just been to Elite to have toyo's fitted to my 15's, and their method is to use a huge blob of copper grease to hold the spacer in place, and then they said the same thing about the tightening of the bolts with the self centering etc. Fair enough.
just put a loads of silicone on the back of the spacer, put the wheel on a tighten up, next time you take the wheel off the spacer will still be fixed on.
How about drilling and counter-sinking them so you could use the brake disk screw? I'd suggest taking the screw to a fastener shop and getting one thats longer.
to fit the spacers put 2 bolts thorugh the wheel and throug the spacers (after greasing) then offer up to the car and your away.... I did it the other way and took me forever... the garage where i had my tyres changed did the above way and did it in a few secs..
How about a length of threaded rod, with a screwdriver slot cut in the end? Screw in 1 or 2 rods, slide on spacer, bolt on wheel using 2 wheel bolts, unscrew rod, bolt on other 2 wheel bolts?
