right i've got a 21 led torch, it's pretty good, it's a nice blueish white colour and lights up things fairy well within around 6-10ft though. I thought it would be brighter, what determines how bright the led's are? as a colleague has a 3 led torch and it lights up about the same, and what determines it's distance? i want something to light up 20ft away, more directional basically, is it the torch design?
these get a good reviw http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260455159122 as do tesco 2x C cell torches oddly enough, for actual brightness, look at the lumen rating
No simple answer here. 1. ELECTRICAL: LEDs have differing electrical Powers. The more electrical power, the more light, (+/- efficiency of the particular LED technologhy being used) + the quicker the battery is dead. 2. LIGHT: LEDs give more light power for lower electrical power than conventional lamps partly because of the focusing lens on the front. The narrower the focusing area, the further the distance. You may find that your lamp has a bigger circle of light at 10m than that of your colleage.
it's not a willy waving exercise Jon you tart. I bought a 21 led torch as I thought that would make it brighter that's all, but as i've know found out after looking at those torches you posted, that's got bugger all to do with it as they've all got one led I do like that p7, it's a toss up between that and police tech one they make, adjustable focus spread is a winner
I have a LED Lenser P7 and its utter pants. For the same money, a Surefire is a WAY better torch (although not LED) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUREFIRE-G2-N...ches?hash=item20ac675281&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
in what way is it "pants"? the torch community seem to love it, and i don't need it with a tactical attachment for a gun to hunt down people 400ft away
it's meant to be 200 lumens, which is pretty damn bright. so you reckon they're lying, or you think 200 lumens isn't bright enough. my current torch is less than 50 so 200 lumens should be mind-blowing compared........
Its nowhere near 200 lumens, even the offical specs reckon 170. For 30, the Surefire has the heritage, history and backup to provide a good, supported by warranty torch that can take a beating. In comparison, the German made LED Lenser stuff scuffs easily, and I personally find surefire products have a better throw. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
they've just brought out a new one that's 200 lumens, the new led lenser stuff is meant to be good quality, if you get past the old threads on cpw forums full of trolling they actually agree it's a decent bit of kit.
I have a Fenix PD30 It is a single LED torch rated at 220 Lumens max. It has 6 different functions, and actually throws the beam quite well. Though not at well as my 4D maglite with xenon bulb.
I completely ignored you Dave and bought the led lenser anyway was awesome last night and will give it a better airing tonight, the throw seems fine on spot beam which is what I use most, very bright, seems well made to me, not dropped it yet which i almost certainly will, so we'll see how it fares then. Perfect for what I need.......
