I would say its worth it (lots of fun) but if my mk2 came with its original 16v engine (brought it as a rolling shell) i wouldn't have the heart to swap engines.

Not hard to wire up, once you know how to read wiring diagrams which is pretty straightforward.

Thanks for input guys, Once i`ve got wiring diagram in front of me i can sort it, i think it just gets a jumble when you can`t see it in front of you, The missus will love me sorting the loom in the kitchen lol

I do like the look of the 20v in the engine bay i think it really cleans it up, then of course its turbo`d

I got Rubjonny to make me a loom, and tbh it's been faultless, and well worth the money.

Basically you give him your standard MK2 loom and the 1.8T loom, and he splices them together, allowing you to retain the original MK2 fusebox. Plug and play :)

You'll also need the ECU de-immobilised.

Then all you need to do is sort out what mounts your using, whether your going hydraulic clutch or seat cable, boost piping, intercooler ect...

If you go ahead with it or need any advice, just PM me

Think i will buy it as its cheap enough, buy bits as i go, started to read your project page richard and am up to page 19 so far. I don`t want to cut anything about on the car.

    Gup16v i have thought about 16VT ;)

Quick progress and really like reading about something like this with a story/background to the car.

    Look forward to more updates.

Re the engine, would personally get it back to its former glory with 16v and then consider engine afterwards. But if you were to up the ante later, 16VT would be different and at least keeps the original engine and somehow more of the story/history in the car - just a thought!

I`ll see how much i can get it for and go from there.

Today i checked 5th injector and that is working fine, i then replaced the seal on no1 cylinder as had a slight leak and it ran a bit smoother, so slowly getting there with the running of it.

sorry no updates on the bodywork this week but hope to get windows out monday and doors and tailgate off.
At least i will be able to get the shell painted by the weekend i hope. then i will get the doors, tailgate and bonnet done following week.

Sad to see such a wonderful motor vandalized like that. Glad that it has found a good owner! It will be stunning when finished.

Looks like your powdercoat on the wheels is a bit thick, the lip doesn't sit flush.
