At the end of the month im going to buy a whole new set of Tyres for my Mk4 Golf 20v Turbo, but im not too sure which ones to go for?

Its currently got a set of Michelin's on there, which do need changing soon, but i need a set that will grip the road, especially in the wet, as the car is used daily...

Any advice will be much appreciated, Cheers

I'm a big fan of Toyo's. Maybe consider the T1-R's?

i do like toyos aswell and there performance in the wet in better than people say, but a mk4 is a heavy car so in the wet you want real good grip, stu-mc has raved about eagle f1s on every tire thread there is so I thought id try them and oh my god they are good! had them on the audi for the ring trip and they have amazing grip in the dry and in the wet they are quite simply the best tire i have ever driven on.

it might be better to do a search on this as theres got to be over 20 threads on the subject.

i loved t1s toyos and they were really good on a wet trackday i did where i almost wimped out due to all the things i read on toyos being crap in the wet[:$], dont think they've made them for years thou, t1r's where never as good but still good for the money i thought, and iv never tried the latest toyo t1 range but nutter 4x4 on here said good things, they just have a ghey tread:lol: Iv never driven on r888s but been out in cars with them on but also all the cars had lsd so hard to tell how much extra grip there was, all felt very very good though.

Nice set of Khumo ecsta ku31 sports is what you need, around 50 a corner and they certainly arent overpriced ditch finders!

superb grip wet or dry, better reviews than Dunlops sp 9000 and quite a few other more "expensive" brands

the khumo is what I had after toyo's and that's why I think they are pants. The toyo's were much better, loads more grip in wet and dry. Bit edgier when they did give way, but i like that

if you love a tyre that squeels its nuts off at 2 mph and wears out in 6 months then the toyo is errrrr great i suppose

really dont rate them, especially on a heavier car, they wear out so quickly its unreal

I have the Khumos on my Rallye.... and it grips like a gypsys dog:thumbup:

glad you chaps mentioned the kumhos... Ive been thinking about getting 4 of those soon.

On blackcircles.com you can get a set of 4 in 195/50/15, delivered to your door (with the cgti 5% discount) for about 128!

Might grab some while theyre hot!

Be careful of goodyears, I hear a lot of stories about some of them being made in China these days, and not quite gripping the same as 'in the good old days'.

With tyres, it depends a lot on what you're fitting them to, and what suspension is on it. I've been very happy with Toyo T1R's on various Sciroccos and Mk2 Golfs. They didn't last all that long (7-8k miles on a well set up Mk2 golf), but I wasn't expecting them to. Had Kumho Ecstas of some sort on another golf and they felt ok, but that wasn't well set up, so hard to compare.

    Good point mike

The car is a heavy MK4 20T, plus the suspension is standard.
So basically i need a tyre which will last (as i do 40miles a day) and will give good grip levels in both wet and dry conditions

I think it will have to be the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric. Although they look boring, they seem to have a great review with 92% grip in the wet & 93% in the dry

Will update which ones i go for soon.

    Cheers

I've been very impressed with Uniroyal Rainsport 2, have a similar design to the directional goodyear F1s.
They are available cheap on tyre-shopper.com.
