I see what pics I have at home.....

Re spec, needed much more compression to get the power, revved well enough though,

I wish I had heard this engine. Apparently it gave Vince a migrane when he mapped it...

I bought it and still have all the bits except the dta. One day it will go back in my mk1. I can provide pictures once I go home for Christmas.

Remember seeing the engine sat on the floor at DesignaDubs many moons ago.

I'm sure it would be a cracker with compression to suit the cam and bodies. Lots of untapped potential;)

Jimmy, didn't someone buy it for rallying initially?

No, I don't think so. I only actually bought the head, cam, buckets & inserts and itbs etc. I don't know about the bottom half, maybe someone bought that for rallying. I started cmming the ports a couple of years ago for some cfd but the probe I was using couldn't get in there properly so I gave up. Have access to laser scanning now so I could do it that way to get a cad/CAE model. Head looks pretty nice, never had it flowed but wanted to see what kind of swirl/tumble the eccentric x flow ports added compared to STD 8v ports. Hence cfd etc.

Hi Jimmy. So the head has the large lump in the inlet valve bowls still? Have you got the part number off the head?

It would be interesting to get a list of head part numbers together for the crossflow heads.
I think the early ones do not have the swirl inducing lump.
Something like OBD1 didn't and OBD2 did. That is a bit Vortex that terminology and not entirely sure what it relates too.

From what I have read an OBD1 head flows better than an OBD2 head stock from the factory.

That'd be good if it's true... the "swirl" type flows very well on the inlet, almost as good as a ported conventional head, though the exhaust is very similar.

Could any one tell me if a crossflow AKL APK head would fit this block

I dont know engine code but i know its a brazil block and it was a tsr brandshatch, which i think means its a 1.8 block bored to 82.5mm with a stroker crank to make it 2l

    Anyone help please

The AKL head will need a slight mod to the front oil drain between cylinders 1 and 2, and the outer 2 rear cylinder heads stud holes in the head will need opened up too take the larger head studs used on your block. Not a lot of effort.

Look at the pic I posted up of the head face of an AKL and you will see a slight variation in the oil drain.

Photobucket is down at the moment so cannot post pic.

Looks like Danny's answered the fitment Q. The block is as you say, 1.8, but there's no diff from GTI to carb blocks in some cases.

To confirm it, check the cast number to the top left of the dipstick against here. Being a Brazilian block, interested to get the data off it anyway + a photo if poss of the rear of the block
