The mrs' mk4 tdi is running rear tires off in no time. Put a full set of kumho tires on six months ago as the previous ones were running off on the inside big time.. So I replaced the rear axle bushes at the same time. Just happened to look today out of curiosity and the inside of both rear tires are as smooth as the the screen on this iPad im using !!! I did a quick search here and there and came up with the possibility that it's because the car is not on standard wheels. It's running on 17" multi spoke superlights with 205/45/17 tires.. Any one know what's going on here coz can't afford tires every six months it's doing my head in [:x]

Running at 32 psi. The near side rear does have a leaky valve and needs blowing about once a week which wouldn't help but both rears are worn exactly the same ??

I am sure the beam is bent. On our Bora V5, the rear tires always last longer than the fronts and we do about 15k miles a year in that.

Aye the rears last at least twice as long as the fronts

Even my 4motion the rear tyres last more than a year
And the toe on it is a good bit out

Plenty of mk4's being broken so you should get one fairly cheap

On my tdi the rears last at least double the fronts.

Get a spirit level or plumb bob to check if your rears sit vertical, if they do, it must be toe in or out, which would suggest axle is bent or chassis is crabbed.

4 wheel alignment will tell all

no it wasnt it was wearing tyres off when we bought it hence the reason i replaced the bushes and put new tires on thinking that would sort it. but obviously theres problems else where :thumbd:

I did have 35mm lowering springs on for a couple of months but she didn't like it so went back to standard but the tires were still mint when I put standard springs back on

You dont pull a caravan or big trailer do you?? 205 isnt a much wide profile than standard so should be no scrubs to inside unless alignment is out

Get it 4 wheel laser alignment asap, at least then if its out it can be fixed before you get the new tyres on and no doubt it will be safer to drive too

Never pulled a trailer or anything as it's never had a tow bar fitted.. I have been trawling the Internet all night and I have come to the conclusion that I'm going to replace the axle get two new tires fitted then a full alignment done. Picking up a second hand axle up a week on Saturday.
