    Hey,

I quite fancy a tuned TDI ideally 200+, I know i'm looking at bigger turbo/injectors/intercooler/remap but what would be a good base model car to start with what has good tuning potential?

Also what types of mods work well with each other and what order should they be done in?

Are there any good sources of after market parts? or what standard parts can be used from other models?

What about clutch and flywheels? Whats needed for what power?

    Cheers

If you go for a PD130 or a PD150 base, you don't need to change the injectors till around 230 - 240 bhp

Just exhaust, hybrid turbo, intercooler and remap.
Oh and you will need an uprated clutch and flywheel.

The PD130 and PD150 engines are also slightly stronger than the PD100 engine's. Diesel engine's are built much stronger (and also heavier) than petrol engine's, so these engine's are capable of taking big power increases without any uprated internals.

Polo 9N or Ibiza are the lightest car's with the 1.9PD engine fitted.

I've heard of Ibiza's with simular spec to my polo getting into 13sec 1/4mile's.

Mine still does over 50mpg on my run to work.

I don't know much about the 2.0 16v TDI engine tuning, and haven't seen any running much more power than the 1.9 8v (when tuned)
Although looking at the inlet manifold and head on the 1.9 8V TDI, I imagine the 2.0 16v have much higher potential

Aren't the older dervs a good bet? The Pre PDI ones. Something about a 10mm spanner and a flat headed screwdriver? I met a guy who was running 220bhp and 400+ ft/lb using the older tech stuff. NB: he did have a Sprinter turbo on it IIRC

I'd like a bit of that action myself for cheap!

If we are ever in the same area, take mine for a spin.

Turbo's are all different. But all interchangable.
PD130 and PD150 use larger hoses than the PD100.

The PD130 came with KKK turbo's and garret turbo's. I believe the garrets can only be used to become a hybrid, but some places will except a kkk in exchange.

I think the standard 150 will go to around 190bhp, but after that it you have to go to a hybrid.

    Good place's for research -

And there are quite a few hybrid users on the Briskoda, and Seat cupra site's.

Whats wrong with doing it to your mk5?
As mentioned its just turbo and remap, which you'd have to on any other tdi but would be more expensive because they aren't bolt on.
You also have the best chassis of recent years. You have zero gain going to any other car unless you want a cheaper car to begin with.

i have a Octavia VRS 170CR 2.0L 16V excellent engine re-mapped will give 205bhp or you can push it to 240bhp.

with Hybrid Turbo 300bhp is acheivable.

i've had a 130PD & 150PD which are excllent engines but not as good as the 170CR Plus i can get 52 MPG [:D]

Yeah I have seen a 300bhp 2.0PD, but it wasn't just a bolt on hybrid turbo. It was also running NOS and many other mods to get to that figure.
Which you can also achieve with the 1.9PD

All the hybrid turbo's i've seen off the shelf for these engine quote the same figure's as the 1.9 hybrids. Would be great to see a 300bhp bolt on hybrid if you do know of one.

The 2.0 16v do drive great in standard form.
Shame they don't put these engine in any of the small/lighter models.

I wanted to put one in my polo when i changed the engine, but couldn't find much info on the conversion.
Looking at one, I'm sure it would have bolted in the standard mounts, But i couldn't find any wiring diagrams to compare. With it being a daily it had to be a quick turn around.
Maybe one for the future, or in a mk2.

it would be nice to see somone tune a 16v crossflow CR170 TDI intake >>> exhaust >>>>>

Got to have more potential than a 8V . intake <<<<<
    Exhaust >>>>

Another good base car is the Ibiza CupraD.
Large FMIC, and 4pot calipers, 160bhp standard.

Although I thing they hold there money quite well

    Few options then,

What engines are in the passat estate 5.5 model or the newer shape caddy van?

Are the engines all interchange able? 100bhp to 150?
