18turbo all the way. I tryed the 2ltr and it was'nt a goer. With a turbo you can tune it a lot easier and the fact there are so many tuners out there we're spoilt for choice. My tip is drive them both and check out what you want out of a car ,also the insurance ,because that's a big factor nowadays.
20vt gets killed by abfs, 2.0 8v wont even see which way the abf went, so if you want to be as fast as a pretty slow mk3, get the 20vt and remap it
I've got a 2.0 (GTI?) for a run around. Had it for a couple of a couple of years and it is terrbible. It has destroyed my soul. For yor own sake DO NOT BUY ONE. I'm in the process of switching to a Corrado to lift my spirits.
