What's best - MK4 1.8T GTi or MK4 2.0 GTi????

    ah cool. guy at work has one and it just says gti on the back, all silver badge, so i presume its just a 2.0 ? i couldnt see anything special about it [8(]

    someone i know has a 20vt (ive worked on it so i know it is turbo) and the badge is a simple silver gti

    The badges have little to nothing to do with the car in reality.

    from my understanding they did on the early cars, red i indicating turbo but apparently it just made them targets for thieves so they all went to silver gti.

    On the topic though its easy

    1.8t is a GTi

    2.0 8v is umm.... Satan dressed as a car!!

    It would be difficult to prove now, unless there's some kind of documentation or literature from way back, exactly what the official policy was.
    The consistently told story I stand by, is that the cars came unbadged and the dealers badged up.
    Of course the opened the doors wide open for major confusion/mix ups. This is further exasperated by the propensity of over zealous owners to change their badging!
