any airband with a wide band PSB on it in theory will pick it up, however, the police dont use one frequency, they waver so people cant listen because they transmit information. I think though there are some expensive ones that can follow the signal.

get one that scans preset frequencies for around 100, but you have to remember that whilst it isnt illegal to listen to the police, it is to store the frequencies in your scanner [:s].

no point really as they are all going of to digital encription in the next few months

It's legal to listen, but it is illegal to either tell other people what you have heard, or modify your actions because of what you have heard.
They're all random scan type things over here, anyway........ you can't even hear a word.

you can get scanners from any radio store and the frequency they most use is 452.750dont ask me why i know this!

The other option is get an ameteur radio these are great as u can locate the police frequency and also talk back 2 them and take the urine as i used to

i dunno, my mates got one, and apart from all the bleep bleep bleepy noises, you can understand them quite well, and when im round his id rather listen to that over the radiop or music lol.

when they go over to digital encryption, the motorway police will still use analogue (or so ive heard)

ive sat there and listened to shoot outs with the police, hour long car chases, and things going on right outside your door, which is always funny, cos you often know the peope involve or know where they are etc.

I've held a full amateur radio licence for ten years.

It is technically illegal to listen to police transmissions. It is also a further offence to tell a third party what you have heard.

my scanner is a realistic pro 26. it can scan abouit 200 channels in 2 seconds. i use mine in my car and it works perfect. can get anything from emergency services to mobile phones. it cost me 100 second hand. Its an industry standard.

and yes it is definetly ilegal to EVEN listen in....

yes the ony disadvantage of my pro 26 is the size!!!

apart from that it can pick up every frequency that is in the area. i get welsh people on my scanner and i live in hampshire!!

the police around here are on 5 different frequencys but they tend to jsut use the single one. :)

same as us (birmingham east) they have 2 main frequencys
and a helicoptor uplink as well as a pursuit channel and a dedicated motorway one.
Any scanner with 100+ channels per second will cope easily with double this amount. I often scan the airport tower and radar controle so i know when plod are geting the the chopper out

purely for fun you understand ;)
