1.8tqs, for the handling, better fuel economy and engine re-mappability.

Not really a criteria as such yet. Need to see what I'm doing job wise.
But it could be a car thats not driven daily, just weekend trips etc.

Want it fully loaded, leather, and decent power. Not S4 territory though

My house mate has had a MK1 1.8t 180bhp Quattro for the last couple of years and it's really good, stating the obvious it grips let poo to blanket, not massivily fast in a stright line though, but Mr. Revo could sort that.

    maybe a tdi then?

if not, id recon 1.8t.....still has easy scope for tuning to v6 level, all are available in quattro guises too.
Even the 2.0fsi's are starting to look affordable too.

    indeed, from vw uk......

"The new innovative 3.0 V6 TDI engine offers superb performance with outstanding economy. Available to order now on both Phaeton and Touareg, the new engine is a significant arrival for both model ranges.

The new 6-cylinder diesel engine on Touareg produces 225 PS from its 3.0-litre capacity, and has a maximum torque of 500Nm at just 1750 rpm.

The turbo diesel engine accelerates the Touareg from 0-62mph in 9.9 secs, and at the same time meets Euro IV emissions standards.

The Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI is also the first in its class to be fitted with a diesel particulate filter as standard. The Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI will be available in both standard and Sport trims.

The quiet and refined 3.0 V6 TDI engine now available on Phaeton is significant for the luxury saloon segment. The 3.0 V6 TDI combines performance with economy and at an attractive price. "
