I don't want to jump on the bandwagon and detract from the already awesome research provided by the two Matts, however I feel they have missed out a crucial piece of torque through history; was it not a de-restricted 1.8 digifant block that was dropped on Japan in 1945, effectively ending WW2 for Japan? VW ran the "some things are best left alone" advert campaign for exactly that reason - the 8v engine is not something to be played with... P.S. I currently have both mk2s (1.9 digi with flowed head & Schrick cam and a standard KR). Digi runs out of breath too quickly but is a more effortless drive around town. 16v wins hands-down on grin factor.
Generally any Ridiculously large explosion is guaranteed to be someone trying to "De-restrict" an 8v. Its also little known knowledge that nuclear power comes from an 8v on idle. That has enjoyed some success in derestricting but know wiser than to give it a rev. This is the dash of an 8v thats been prepared for derestriction. And what looks like a normal nuclear power station is actually an 8v. Those are not chimneys from the nuclear reactor, they are in fact the stack exhaust from the 8v engine. One per cyclinder. And the bore size of these are necessary.
Maybe, or it could be the heats so immense that it would be steamy whatever the weathers. Sponsored by powergen.
This documentary was originally supressed by VWoA, but, then attributed to fires at chemical plants that were actually secret VW/NASA testing facilities. They were trying to see if de-restricted 8v`s could be used for deep space exploration. As you can see not entirely successful. Nothing can harness that kind of power. This has set NASA back years in terms of development, hence why we don`t now live on the Moon or Mars.
amazing.... the thread started off as a almost sensible 8v v 16v thread which lets be honest there hasnt been one posted for a little while and now look what has happened.... U CRAZY LOOONS with too much time on your hands have turned it into a total joke!! shouldnt "most" of us be getting back to doing some work an not playing on here hehe.
Peter Jackson recently created a film adaptation of a popular book by Tolkien, The Lord Of The Rings. However, what Peter Jackson didn't know was that the book was originally written about a digifant powerhouse. The original version contains the seminal lines: "One 8v digi to rule them all, One 8v digi to find them, One 8v digi to bring them all and in the darkness bind them" Of course before the story went on general release the dark powers of the 2 valves per cylinder unit had been replaced with the slightly more far-fetched 'ring'. Something about being more palatable to audiences and also a safety issue - not wanting to encourage 'copycat' 8v tuning.
