My golfs insurance is due. its on a modified policy and since i have had it, comp cover is what i have had , but its 500quid this year and seeing as its worth maybe 1800-2000 quid its now not really worth comp cover is it? so i was gonna call them and say the value is not 5k as it used to be and i want tpft, would this really reduce my premium? any other ideas to get it down i have 9yrs ncb and its on limited milage already.
Switching to TPFT will definately drop the premium, regardless of value. Maybe worth asking for a quote as is, value wise, on TPFT, and see if that is more palatable.
It may not actually make all that much of a difference switching to tpft, iirc it was only around 60 on my mk2 between the two
on a side note this should also drop the premium! I know it's a repost!
That`s why you should try `specialist` insurers rather than high street companies. Brentacre, HIC, etc.
I recently renewed both our cars and found fully comp doesnt really change the premium much so worth having nor does adding voluntary excess so I done away with that too. Having my wife as the policy holder with me and my 3 points as an additional saves us loads of money.
I think there was something silly like 70 difference between fully comp and TPFT for me. After having both a knock and a cracked windscreen whilst on TPFT, I've gone fully comp now. The windscreen cost me 190 to replace myself, compared to the 70 excess. Plus when I had an accident in the snow (my fault), I was left with the pain of getting the car back, then to a garage, which naturally caused stressed whilst arranging transport for work otherwise i wouldn't have got paid. Fully Comp for peace and mind is what I go for rather than save the 80 which I found out is my price difference on both the Volvo and mk2.
i found there wasn't much in the price between tpft and comp, some companies there was no difference at all ,but i added my dad on the policy and it reduced it 70 quid ish, they said adding a named driver reduces it in some cases,i suppose they have to have clean liscence and no accident, claims and convictions etc but worth it i always go fully comp even though my car isn't worth a lot, some tpft policies won't get your car back home,on my policy comp cover means i can have my car recovered to my address
called up today reducing the value would only knock 30 quid off fully comp however tpft comes in at 350 where as comp is 500, do they think i am going to stack it or what? so what to do, my wages have gone down drastically and a saving of 150 this close to xmas would help out,
i'm surprised the difference is that much, as others have said the cost between TPFT and FC is minimal these days. Or maybe as I have got older the gap has closed?
its a mk4 t reg golf so its no classic! and probably never will be, they are the awkward middle child
