    hi,

i'm looking upgrade the 256mm brakes on my 90' 16v gti,

the cars for track use and i want to keep 15" wheels so that rules out the seat/brembo 305mm option.

i was going to use the 280mm g60 setup but then saw this:

page 1 of the new track and race cars mag has an advert showing a wilwood 4 pot kit.

its their new midlite 4-pot caliper with 280 x 21mm discs for the golf 468.83 inc vat.

listed as fully dust sealed, drop forged billet, squeal reduction system.

they should fit under 15's as they are 280mm.

anyone used wilwood before? or got any other recommendations?

    thanks

sounds a bit expensive, i dunno what calipers u wonna use, but id get some mk3 gti pad cariers, some after market G60 disks, and good pads, that would give > G60 performance, or not too much cash, then u could uprate the calipers later?

i think the wilwoods would perform better but im a 'think of the price' kinda guy

thanks for the suggestion, i will either go for a G60 setup or a set of 4 pot calipers,

thinking about it, by the time i've found some G60 calipers stripped painted and resealed them and bought decent disc's pads and braided hoses i don't think the price will be that different to the wilwoods.

just need to know if 15's will fit over the 4 pots and if anyone has any experience with them??????

depends what wheels you have, if you have RAs then even 280s are a bit of a fiddle

Now that made me smile.... LOL What a crok!
    Howling brakes...

Avoid Polymatrix pads like the plague.

its got these wheels on it at the moment:

fondmetal 15's, they seem to have a reason able amount of clearance, but i'll try them on my G60 to be sure.

    RA's aren't a problem with 280's if you fit 16v pads.

bill: sounds like you've used these calipers before and don't rate them?

are they quiet if other pads are used?

    what would you recommend?

    thanks

i know that is what is on mine, but they still don't fit if the discs and pads are new, needs a worn outer pad

thats odd that you need a worn outer pad

i put G60 calipers and carriers, new 280mm discs and new 16v pagid fast road pads on my old 8v and the RA's went straight on with no problems.

I have used Wilwood for years on all sorts of vehicles and race cars and they are very good quality and value for money. The best UK supplier is Rally Design www.raldes.co.uk.

    cheers quattro,

it was in an ad for rally design that i saw the calipers.

will go for the wilwoods if i can confirm they will fit under a set of 15" wheels, have tried looking on their web site but cant find the info so will have to call them.

    Three equal prioroty jobs are:

    1) to decide what wheel size you want (based on the cost and type of tyres you can get)

    2) the type of pads available for the calipers you've got an eye on.

    3) Cost of both

I believe the Midlite has a lesser range of pads avail, compared to the Dynalite/Superlite - worth a check, since it's a while now since the former were introduced.

My guess is you'd be ok on 280s.

    I needed 10mm spacers on G60 steels / 280s to clear Dynalites.

On 7x15 alloys which had a fair ridge around the inside edge, they didn't need anything.

295s is likey to be ok, but I wouldn't shell until you are certain.

But your offset is 0? Typo?
