erm 40a, they're just switched relays but they have the larger input/output spades as required by the x-over relay socket. as i say a std switched relay has much smaller spades that dont make good contact. std fit on all mk1, mk2 and mk3 so dead easy to get in scrappy. uin fact just about any vw or seat from late 70s to early 2000 will have one

Re: Ceramic fuse - fusebox ... same as OP`s I believe.

My relay plate for the x-over relay will only accept the 6mm (smaller) spades and not the 10mm (larger) items.

crap you're right! so a std 40a switched relay should work fine.

check the pinout of the relay you bought, maybe its not right:

    K8 - earth - relay pin 31
    K9 - live - relay pin 30
    K10 - x feed (relay output) - relay pin 87
    K11 - ignition live - relay pin 86

if thats ok look at the socket make sure its not corroded. if that looks fine pop the relay in and unplug the ignition switch, bridge the red wire to the black/yellow and wipers, lights, blowers etc should all come on

yeah thats the right pin layout for the relief relay, justy need to get a std automotive relay with same pin layout. make sure its a 40a, and note pin 85 might be labled 31, and pins 85 and 86 might be swapped. still fine though
