40-50 per hour + materials for a good welder. Edit:- I think that with all those holes, id find out what cage as fitted, fit another and resign the shell to a track car. Alternatively, id be loooking for a new shell to put everything in. Edited by: Deako
it was a safety devices one i recon, he tried to sell that to me extra i can get it for 100 - worth it? tim
do you mean sub frame for seat base not cage? i dont thing it is, cos that doesnt / wouldnt seem to foul it, tim
as to reshelling it, hardly worth it for a few man made holes?! maybe if it was rotton and falling apart!?! i will be saving this one i think!
Holes in shells tend to lead to rot once youve broken the seals, as such. They can be patched, but will need to be perfect.
i intend to do it properly, im no bodge artist, other wise i would just wack some filler on it or just stick the carpets back in, will be cleaned up completely plated up then plastered in underseal above and below, tim
The holes that are in the back of the foot wells are for a jetex rally exhaust, it bolts to the floor.
The welding is a simple job - it won't cost the earth and your right to keep it a road car... it looks well and they're only a few holes..
cheers for the inspiration guys! want to get all the holes and wiring sorted before i get the car on the road! tim
Deako,i cant believe you would reshell a car just because of a few holes,my Mk1 gti has 3/4 of thefloor completely rotten but i`m saving it. I found a mobile welder/restoration specialist and he gave me a great price to restore the floor, half the price of a garage.
in the process of saving it right now! well more a clean up and prevension than sorting out the rot as there is not alot, all been dremeld down to bare metal, then used, 'krust' to sort the rust, primed it, - 2 coats, and have loads of underseal waiting to go on, tim
it really isnt alot of work at all, its nearlysorted now! the rust that is, wiring will be dealtwith shortly! tim
