Because i want the uk to be a reasonable place to live so that i can move back!

In short; i miss my mates but wouldn't feel comfortable subjecting my kids (back on-topic see) to it.........

i think it was reported that Netherlands had a worse emigration rate of its better workers then the UK,

fed up the way the country was being run.

i dont know how anyone can be happy with the way the country i run. and just because we may nmot have a better idea doesnt mean we can disagree with it. i do have a problem with spongers, and saying that if we didnt give them sht loads of benefits that theyd mug everyone is just obsurd. we could spend the money saved on better police, and batter the fck out of them

ONE of Wales' leading judges launched an outspoken attack on "feeble parents", junk food and the breakdown of family values during a speech about youth crime yesterday.
Crown Court judge John Curran insisted aspects of modern parenting were linked to such contemporary ills as binge drinking and anti-social behaviour.
The Merthyr Tydfil-based judge, who has 40 years' experience in criminal law, said:
- Single teenage mothers often make bad parents, and the absent fathers bad role models, because they are too young to have children;
- Quarrelling parents should stick together for their children's sake; andToo many children are being "parked" in front of the television all day and being fed junk food.

"This is not a case of 'judge slams single mums'," he said in his speech entitled Parenting Skills: Keeping Young People Out of the Criminal Justice System delivered at a conference on youth issues.

"But it is a fact that many of the parents who create this kind of environment for their children are themselves very young and inexperienced and are just plain ignorant of what is required to bring up a happy, well-adjusted child."

Judge Curran said "the broken home" was at the root of much of the crime he saw. "It's rather an old- fashioned term I suppose but I've got to the stage in life where I regard being old-fashioned as a virtue and so I'll stick to it."

Corporal punishment should be avoided because it was "immensely harmful", he said.

But children who have never heard the word "no" too often "have an outlook on life which leaves them with a sense of entitlement to do whatever they want, even if it involves the commission of crime", he added.

Judge Curran was addressing an All-Wales High Sheriffs' seminar in Cardiff on tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

Raising children required giving "constant love and attention", he told the audience of youth workers, politicians and senior police officers.

"It's got nothing to do with money or throwing expensive presents at Christmas at the child."

Children should not be fed junk food which contains harmful additives or "parked" in front of the television to watch cartoons all day, he said.

The education system also came in for criticism. Sex education in schools must be "more than an instruction manual in how to have intercourse", he said.

Parents should be taught how to raise well-behaved children and set good examples.

But "all too frequently" they respond violently to schools' attempts to discipline their children, "involving an attack on a teacher on school premises", he added.

Disruptive pupils are too often the children of violent parents, or parents "too feeble to control and guide the youngsters".

He also warned about the dangers of drugs - including cannabis - and binge drinking.

He said the long-term effects of cannabis, such as depression and schizophrenia, were "horrific".

Parents have "no excuse" if their children drink, he said.

"The children swigging lager from the can in the park or outside the local shop are prime candidates for the drift into crime.

"I said I was old-fashioned, and I am.

"We must also get the message across to couples, whether they are married or are in a relationship, they are going to have to face up to the fact that children of the relationship should take priority. They have to learn to stick together until the children reach adulthood."

He did not expect abuse victims to stay with a violent partner, "but in other cases couples who consider their own personal happiness requires them to separate have got to learn to put the interests of the children first and stick it out".

He said there must be a way to intervene in a child's upbringing, without intruding upon families' democratic freedoms, if a child is at risk of drifting into crime.

"It is very difficult to influence a young person to change a behaviour pattern that has emerged over a period of years, particularly where it has arisen wholly or in part as a result of parental example," he said.

He added, "I am talking about the parents of a minority of families, but it is a minority that is growing and the growing number of incidents of binge drinking by youngsters in public places and bullying misconduct that can blight the lives of people in the neighbourhood shows that this minority is increasing and having a seriously damaging effect on the fabric of society.

"A depressingly common theme of the early lives of offenders, as revealed by my own long experience and in the reports I read, is the separation of the parents at a very early stage of the child's life."

However, he said the "vast majority" of separated parents bring their children up successfully.

"The fact is, however, that all too many of those who end up in the criminal justice system do so against a background of an absent parent - usually the father.

"If there is one thing a boy needs in life it is the interest and good example of a concerned and responsible father. So many offenders have not had that advantage that it cannot be a coincidence."

A "disturbing number" of single mothers are in their teens and under the age of consent "at the time of the conception or even the birth", he added.

The fathers of young offenders he sees are "frequently young offenders themselves and either not on the scene at all or, if they are, setting a positive bad example by their behaviour".</TD></TR></T></TABLE>
