Hello Cilla, my names Rob and I am from Worcestershire

Right, born an absolute age ago (1968!!) and passed through childhood relatively unscathed. Completed my education with a fairly good handfull of grades (I wont mention them, cause O levels and CSE's will mean feck all to most of you :p)

Left school and became an Apprentice for a furniture making firm. Now been with that same company for near 20 years!!!! :o Currently working as a CAD Draughtsman in their drawing office.

Got into dubs about 15 years ago, when a mate turned up at work in a bright yellow MK1 Golf 1.1C. Its was the best fun to drive and chuck about. Subsiquently bought a MK2 GTI 8v. Since those days have owned VW's for all that time except for a few months owning a MINI Cooper [:$]

I now live as a single father with my daughter (age 12) in Evesham, where I have resided all my life except for 2 years where I lived in Worcester!

For those that dont know, I run the Worcestershire Region of Club GTI, which I have been doing since 1997

The rest, as they say, is history [:D]

I'm Jake, never christened that name but thats a long story. Born in Cornwall in '72 but moved to London around 10 years ago (and miss home). Left school with 1 GCSE, not very good at reading and writing but went on to do Industrial Design and ended up working in 3D animation after wasting time as a waiter, labourer, selling guitars and building computers (not in that order, or with any sucess)
The car modifying and tuning is my parents fault, Pa (himself the son of an engineer/biker) worked on custom/racecar bodywork and building race engines. We had a garage where I spent my time as a kid, much better than school (see above [:$] ). My Ma gave me her mk1 polo after I crashed it (age 14 [8(]) and the VW thing began.....
Live with my girlfriend of the last 4 years+ (she's also the daughter of an engineer/race engine builder, so she's fairly tollerant of me and the cars) a couple of fish, a mate (VW nut as well) and piles of engine parts in South London.
I like to drink both tea and beer, partial to the odd rollie and I look and smell like an oily rag.
Came here after the e-groups list got fragmented and went silly, only went there as I needed to ask a question about buying a GTI.......

Born in Nottingham a long time ago (don't ask! ;) ) and still here.

Had a happy uneventful childhood. Learned to drive on a Massey-Ferguson! Tried a bit of stockcar and go-kart racing. Had lots of cars, mostly British and big, also BMW. Used to like them with all the toys.

Work in a boring Government job, also part-time IT teacher at local college. Now live on my own, so have to be resourceful - I'm a great bodger, 'cos I have to be. Will tackle most things, not always (often?) successfully.

Then 3 years back, I was given my Driver (and first VW) when son moved onto a GTI. At first I thought it was boring/basic, with no toys. Came on here a couple of years back for some techie advice (thanks, Darryn :) ), and was hooked. Have done a few cosmetic things to my car, and would do more stuff if I could afford to or had the skill/courage to tackle them. Aspire to a Corrado or R32 - could do with a lottery win or a sugar daddy! ;)
    That's it - that's me.

I'm Matt, 28 yrs old. Born and raised in Liverpool now live in Midomer Norton near Bath, have been down here for 7 years.

Went to Uni in Lampeter (tiny place in Wales) have worked as an analyst since 2000 for a large investment company, owned by a very large US company.

Engaged to Alex who I met 3 years ago. Complete on our first house on friday (27th) so currently have no cash!

First car was a Mk4 Escort, then a Golf Driver now a GTI 16V (Mk2). Its a white 5 door but i love it and honestly cannot think of anything to replace it with.

Have been a memeber of CGTI since August 2001 when I bought the Mk2 and have posted on here since January 2002.(Didn't realise I was allowed to join when I had the Driver  )

  10. Ok Dokey my turn: I'm Alec Thomson, born 08/09/1968 - that makes me 36 this year ( I think ?? [:s] ). Born in Hamstreet, Kent but moved to somerset when I was 4. Lived here ever since, and moved to Yeovil cos' wanted some night time entertainment (god knows what made me think Yeovil could offer that, but it made sense at the time). Went to School, did exams passed them. Went to College doing HND Electrical mechanical Engineering and in the 2nd year managed to crash my motorbike and stick meself in hospital for 5 months - this made colleage a bit difficult but passed the exams and put pay to the Somerset County Squash team efforts. A friend's sisters bloke started giving me lifts to college in VW's (he worked at the local VW dealer) and this is what made me want a MK1 Golf GTI and got me into dubs. Worked in my Bro's Motorbike shop rebuilding bikes, helped the old man rebuild a few classic cars so have always been tickering with maechanical things and experimenting.

Have done a few jobs, barman whilst at college, Draughtsman, Contracts manager, Purchasing Manager, commercial officer for GKN westlands, and now a Consultant for an eRP Company based in Reading - wanted to see some of Europe on other peopples money which made sense at the time to do the comsulting role. Live with Maria my Fiance and have 3 children, so could now do with less travel and a job which gets me home at night !!

Have owned 2 GTI's, one MK1 1600GTI for 5 years, then the 1800 Turbo technics that I still have today and have owned this now for 13+years. Been a CGTI member on and off for the last 13 years, and have known about the forum for some time before I started posting last year. Trouble is now though, it;s like a drug - just can;t get enough of it and you Guys (all together: "arrrgggghhhhhhh [xx(] ), so that's me in a nutshell !!!!

Gary, 32 lived in rural, flat Lincolnshire all my life, father died of cancer when I was 4 [:^(] so, Mum had a job on her hands with the 3 of us (brother Paul and Sister Lisa who was born with Hare lip and Cleft pallet.)

Was always interested in cars/ engines from a young age as Mum's father used to race short ovals and friends of the family did too. Nothing unusual for me to be cleaning Weber DCOEs on a Sunday aftenoon as a kid

Wasn't too great at school and bunked off a lot in the last two years to spend time at a mate's garage, cleaning cars, messing around and charging batteries backwards [:$]

Got an apprenticeship at local Ford dealership at 16 and did 3? years day release at Norcat (Lynn 'tec) to get an NVQ in motor vehicle tech.

Been at the local Ford place doing anything and everything including MOTs ever since and am currently working towards Senior technician status with regular courses at Daventry.

Over the years had various (mostly old) cars which the majority of have been crashed once (or twice!) and first joined CGTI in '95 when I had a tidy mk2 8v ,Tornado pink with MiM 1900s [:D] Sold that and had other things in the meantime but bought another jade green digi 8v, which was cr*p tbh [xx(]

After a period of RST ownership (shudder) I bought a cheap mk2 16v as the coffers had been drained replacing numerous CVH engines and gearboxes [8(]

It was after buying this cheap mk2 16v, I discovered computers and the internet, which is how I stumbled across PVW forum and the Yahoo! mailing list, as others have said PVW forum became a waste of time and then this forum took off in a big way, I became a moderator for a while but got tired of the constant whinging and personal abuse from forum members that didn't understand the rules or thought they were 'above' them -so I gave that up.

Replaced the old 16v with a late mk2 16v which over the last couple of years has evolved into a track friendly almost bearable daily driver.

Forum has been great for meeting people with the same interests and have made many good mates along the way, I enjoy helping organising things like the rolling road events, track days and Nurburgring trips, If it wasn't for these meets, I wouldn't have met my girlfriend Claire who I've been with for the last 18 months or so :)

    Can I breathe now?
