Thought it time to build me a long term daily driver thats gonna keep me interested, be economic (relativly speaking) & fit the family of cars I've been involved with building.... Number one, track tastic. http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171960 Number two, Ady's baby. http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=195585 Number three, you've all seen this one. http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=196688 Number four, slow burn project. http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=230047 Number five, gone but not forgotten. http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=237101 And now.... The Sexy Sixth.... Presenting my 1990 1.8 16v Burgandy Pearl Metalic Corrado 97k miles, one not very careful filthy lady owner, full history 19 stamps in the book and a ton of soil, muck and mess inside... lets see where this goes?
Had this for a couple of weeks now, collected it from that London, Sarf a tha Riva... Its got a full 12 month ticket and good mechanical history however I think the lady that owned it was developing cateracts based on the fact all four corners have been knocked off it... added to the fact the interior was one of the worst places i'd ever been... As most of you know now this would never do... the plan is to build a nice tidy daily drive that looks good goes ok but most of all is reliable, economic and usable. Close up in the shop. The nice thing is this has not been messed about with and all the right bits are still there. Ofcourse it had to come to pieces. My beautiful assistant on hand as always, cheers babe X The interior was stripped, two hours of jet washing the carpets wasn't enough so they will become a project of thier own. A pile of seat bits to repair, the foam is shot but the fabric is still good, I have other doner seats to make good with. Bumpers off and stripped. Rear strip. Bonnet off, it has a late spec bonnet that i'm not keen on so i have an early bonnet in good nic to use. Face off. Wings off. No rot but bodgy repairs ned puttin right. No rot inside. Doors stripped and off. Tailgate off too. Enjoying the windy sun on Sunday. Pile of panels. And your up to date with where we are. The rest of the plan is to get her painted and re-assembled in a lovely stock fashion before the end of April. Hope you enjoy. Philip & Alicia
Thats one more to add to the list!! I have plently parts here for some reason I have always liked those wheels, just look nice Lets keep this one OEM!!
Shame you sold the Jetta track shell to make way for this in your life Phil. No dedicated track car now? Look forward to seeing you turn this around as always.
I thought I had mis-heard when someone mentioned a Corrado on Saturday, I thought 'haven't seen that build thread' - look forward to seeing how this pans out
Blimey - another one! Good luck with it. Shell looks decent enough as a starting point. Bonus eibach ARBs and polybushes too? I've recently been told that you can paint carpets to bring them back to their original colour - an old car dealer trick. Apparently you can get specialised carpet and vinyl paint for the job. If you're bodging something up for sale, some would just use normal rattle cans, but that certainly wouldn't match your normal approach.
Looks like a good find Phil, I'd give my left ******* for a workshop like that ( not my right one tho quite fond of that one) Deadline in time for Curby?
it dont take you long phill, im sure that was in pretty much one piece a week ago lol. you always do such a thorough job gonna be a really nice daily mate
Humm, nice,a TDI light weight rado would be a nice daily.Great handling & styling with economy. Just a thought.
Hi Mike, the sub frame with the good bits on in the pic is from my track car. It would be nice to get it out for then Bit of a quick update. The glass is now out and came out with any trauma, the dash bits are stripped for cleaning and there is a bit of rot to deal with. Glass out. Dash bits stripped. Not sure how the car passed its MOT with no advises!!... If it did?? I've found broken wires that would stop some lights working and a MASSIVE hole in the front sub frame behind one of the front wishbone captive nuts!! Thats gonna be a world of pain to sort!! Got a couple of good subframes so it'll just add another day or so!! More soon.
Cheers boys... Andy I've been looking at the pics of yours, i'll let you know soon Done a little more tonight, sorted a couple of bits of welding at the end of the passengers cill in the rear wheel tub, got a little more cleaning of the underside of that cill then the passenger side is done. Full day early morning start tomorrow so should get the drivers side done and around the windscreen done I hope. The hole in the subframe has vexed me but I think its a blessing in disguise as it gives me an excuse to pull the motor and clean the bay up. Laters
Bloody hell, you crack on. How did you remove the side glass? Did you get someone in to do that or use one of those little Draper (or something) bonded windscreen tools?
