OK guys I am now the proud owner of a 2E engine & surprise surprise have a couple of queries- The flywheel is absent from the new engine, can I fit my old one if so how do I fit it so that the timing mark is in the right place? Also the bottom (the rear one) pulley is missing again will my EV one fit? Lastly (Ithink) can I use the hydro tappetts from the 2E in the EV head? Cheers
For your clutch. You need: One of these spacer plates. And. Some of these bolts, 25mm u/head. And some Locitie Blue. And. One of these late Mk3 Sachs Pressure Plates. And. This inspection hole in the bell housing cover plate. And. Some of these. And. Flight Tickets for Danster to visit and Lap Dance the PP to Crank. And. Flight Tickets for daved to visit and D'Reamer the Clutch bits. And. Lots of beer, NOT BREWED UNDER LICENSE, and fish n' chips, and haggis. And. Job'll be a good 'un! PS alexisblades99 can stay in Suomi, as he still hasn't worked out the correct torque/turn for this set-up!
Hold on, whats all that stuff for? I just want to know if I can my EV flywheel onto my 2E engine, this getting complicated, the 2 litre 8v conversion was sold to me on the basis that I just bolt my head onto the block & bolt the engine into the car. This is all getting too complicated for my liking[:^(]
the pressure plate only fits one way if you keep the flywheel in the same place on the pressure plate ie mark it first before you remove it you cant go wrong i cant remember if the flywheel go's on more than one way on the pressure plate i would cheak all the tinware /backplate on the block and swop over any if you have too from the old engine
I did the post because of the Title. I assumed that 180 bhp minimum is 'More Power'? Flywheels only go one one way. Just check how many spring dowels are fitted: Two dowels for Mk2s and early Mk3s. One dowel for the later one that I posted.
Gaz, just to clarify. You state the flywheel is missing from the 2E engine. Do you mean just the flywheel, or the clutch pressure plate and the flywheel? This is relevant because as Daved states, the clutch pressure plates are different (2 dowels mk2, 1 dowel mk3). This means that you will need to swap the clutch pressure plate from your old EV engine to the 2E so it matches your EV flywheel. The bolts that hold the pressure plate to the crank will need to be torqued up properly too. Hopefully your clutch friction disc is in good condition and not too badly worn, as this will have to cope with the masses of 8v torque getting to the gearbox. The clutch pressure plate will only fit the crank one way as stated above, the matching flywheel (1 or 2 dowel) will only fit one way too. This means the TDC mark will always be in the correct position. PS: Pic of pet eel please.
The whole thing is missing ie there's just a wee thingy poking out of the right hand side of the engine that looks like it needs sometning bolting to it, no pressure plate, flywheel or anything. As the clutch on my old engine is fairly new I guess I just bolt the whole thing onto the new engine?
That is good, Just swap everything over from your EV engine. Including the tin splash guard as well as mushy suggested. NB make sure crank bolts are torqued correctly. I think there was someone offering a "torque wrench service" in your "Bristol tool swap" thread if you do not have one yourself. Tappets are swappable, but generally should stay match to their cam. Probably not that much of a concern here though.
I don't know yet, due to my lack of a garage I'm going to have to wait until a few dry days when I'm not working. Not sure I'll be getting to inters TBH[:^(]
Gaz. Even though the Clutch is fairly new, check the thrust plate for cracks. Behind the centre pin, and at the bend of each of the three locating lugs. My car's not going back together without welds at the lugs, and the centre pin!
Thanks for the offer Dan Unfortunately I'm working sat & it's Mrs Gaz's birthday Sun so I'll be banned from car work for the day. I'm sure I'll be screaming for help when i eventually get started
Yes, it's progressing nicely. So far I have- Taken the head off the 2E block.................................well that's it really.
Thread resurrection or what! Have you considered fitting a 1300 engine? Because, by the time you get this done you will be so old your reactions and eyesight will be shot. Reekin o pish FTW
