I got to spend a few hours on the car this weekend. I routed the n/s lighting / fan power / alt trigger harness through the chassis leg and connected it all up. I was also looking at the indicator loom and just felt like it needed a refresh, so i just made a new one, using the old one as a template and just extended it a little as it all connects up inside the car now. I want to make sure i'm seen. I thought about replacing the headlights for something brighter but it would need to have that kida yellowy tinge that older bulbs have... a bright white LED lighting system would be too much i think. i need to make another small loom of 3 x feed wires for the guages, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure and Voltage. I'm thinking of connecting upto the Altenator for the voltage guage as i would rather see that the altenator is charging and doing its thing than just see the power at the battery. But maybe thats not the right way to do it? thoughts from smarter people @rubjonny ? @Savagesam ? @Mk2daz ? These need a freshen up, but that can happen at any point really. I wire the battery voltage gauge to an ignition live feed, then you get the true battery voltage whenever ignition is on, no need to go direct to alternator
Yes, plus if its wired direct to alternator or battery or any other perm live feed its going to be reading (and drawing slight current) even when the car is off and key is out, unless you have some kind of battery kill switch for when parked up. Looms are looking superb by the way
Great success, all wiring complete and in place. Going to run the car up to temp and check all the guages are performing as expected later. So..another bit of advice needed really. The wings were painted but the rear of the wings seem a bit un protected. in the picture below you can see the old wax that it used to have on the inner wing but the outer wing itself i don't think was ever protected... so i was thinking of painting with Raptor..or should i just use the same type of spray on wax? Nice one buddy, smart bit of wiring. When we did Allie's golf I stonechipped the inside of wings and let dry before fitting, then when got them on sprayed more on the joints, inside of arch lip etc, and then spray underseal too just for good measure. Done that on the A4 wings, and polo, definitely seems to protect them quite well, it's the arch liner movement that rubs paint thin then traps water causing the rot, so as much rubbery waxy stuff in that area as possible I reckon.
small head scratch session tonight. I have 3 oil senders on the car. High - white - feeds to the dash Low - Blue - feeds to the dash Temp - feeds to the dash iIve also got a duel Audi sender 035919561 that im using to feed my Oil Pressure VDO. its got a 0-5 bar and a low pressure 0.30 bar output Now i need to add another Temp sender for my VDO...so the Question for @rubjonny is.... can i do away with the current Blue low pressure sender and use the 0.3bar low pressure pin on the duel audi sender to feed the dash? i could then add the new oil temp sender to feed the VDO where the old blue sender was.
More wiring than Bridgwater carnival! When I was sorting the mini I fitted an oil temp gauge, guys at minisport told me not to put the sender in the filter area, usual sandwich plate fitting, but to use one in the sump, so fitted it into the drain plug on that. Not sure if that's an option for you.
I know right. Hate wiring too but now I understand it, it's not too bad. The sump is just a bit exposed so I'd rather stick to the filter area
yes if you have a dual vdo pressure sender with 0.2-0.3 WK terminal replace the original low pressure switch with it and move the blue/black to the WK terminal. then you have a spare hole for VDO oil temp sender
what sort of position would you be interested in? we could do with more volenteers to run events (eventually )
Happy to help on any forum stuff for now if any help is needed, if not then thats no worries. Chairman of the "help me i've broken it" committee
Cheers! Need to get it updated with new stuff. Hopefully going to be offering Moman "Glow" gauge fitting and a cheaper option for screen replacement shortly. And also genuine Osram bulbs because the I'm not a fan of the cheap pattern bulbs you get
