Heya guys. I thought i'd come on over and introduce myself. Been meaning to make a thread on this forum for a while. I'm normally browsing it. I have had this car for about a year and half now and it started out as a cheap local car that I was going to clean up a bit and sell for a profit. But clearly that didn't work out at all. I will try and keep this first post quite short with a list of what i've done but I could talk for pages and pages about each thing. Let's start out with some pics when I first got it. Was filthy inside, last owner was a dog owner so it was hair and sand EVERYWHERE! Started out as little things like stripping the interior out for a good clean, then started changing broken trim. Then started to get silly replacing bits of scratched trim that no normal person would notice, full wet sand and polish, Took it to the bodyshop to get the bottom half of the car and boot lid to be done, new wheels. Still could of sold it but I already loved it. And then I was browsing eBay one day and found an air con setup for a RHD car. Never even knew these excised. I had to have it. I was past just doing the car up to sell. Before even fitting this I was looking at other optional extras I didn't know about and started collecting parts slowly. Also it was on 16 inch BBS RS for summer. It's back on the ronals for winter. Summer can't be back soon enough! So as of today it has; Air con, cruise control, heated seats, height adjustable steering column, electric edition one recaros, electric mirrors, and headlight level adjusters Also got a new addition in the post yesterday. Thanks for looking.
Nice Car Pal. Looks real Clean.. Id keep the standard GTi Lights though! how you fitting the Digifiz in, the dash panel is from a LHD? I had a Digifiz, never got around to even offering it up to the dash before selling it! Any other plans for it?
Looks fantastic! Well done for getting it looking this good in only a year and a half - I've had mine for 5 years and its not half as good as this
Thanks. I like the rear likes, they are the same texture as standard. Brightens up the rear end. If I went back to 16v ones i would just be doing it to be standard. I genuinely like these more on this colour. I wont be using the lhd dash plastic. It just came with the setup that I bought. It's not digifiz specific. Cant think of much more I can do. It probably has a strip down restoration in its future. Thanks man! I have invested a lot of time in it.
Thanks for posting and welcome to ClubGTI. Lots of guys on here with Monza Blue MK2s including me Loving the tasty mods.
Holy hell that looks awesome! Really liking monza these days. How long do the bumpers stay black after the heat gun treatment? Might finally give it a go.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Hopefully some more progress soon Trevor! Expect loads of nerdy boring updates. I bore all the other forums with it. But I think it will fit in more here. The heat gun on the rear bumper didn't last at all. Looked really shinny after I did it too. I got a new rear bumper and had it painted when I had the rest done.
Not sure how people can think this is ok? Twisted together wires with duct tape wrapped around for the headlight plug. Better than the masking tape I found on the jetta though. What is it about the headlight switch plug?
Thanks Tom. First techy question for you lot. Pin 56d on the light switch. I assume its for the dip dim lights? The digifiz loom has an 8 pin light switch plug and the standard loom in my car has the 9 pin. So it's missing pin 56d Where would that wire go to on the fuse box if I added it? A21?
