do i spend extra time and money looking for a 225bhp 1.8t or should i just go for the 150bhp 1.8t

i think that over 200bhp with front wheel drive your going to have to spend a lot of money on things to help it get the power down. i just want a car that has the option for 200bhp that will run with the rest of my car nothing too spastic

also the 150bhp is a lot cheaper to buy.

also any good numbers for insurance. if i can get it at a nice price.....ill be getting this done asap [:D]

225 for deffo. If you are going to be doing the swap and forking out a few quid anyway, I'd pay the extra, keep it at 225 for a bit, bearing in mind that you have the potential for 280bhp reliably. :)

    That's what I'd do anyway.

In all practicality though the 150 would be cheaper and there wouldn`t be a silly silly amount of power through a FWD chassis. (PS i`m assuming a mk2 chassis?)

i need to know performance figure then really

sourcing all the parts for a 225 engine would be a nightmare and rip off prices....surely

agreed, i have been talking to the guy that would do the install and he said he would recomend the 150 as its a little more controllable.

this is putting the 150 in at 190.

end of the day 190 in a mk2 is going to be very quick. i hear that 174 heavy vr is quick. i cant see the need for 280 unless your have 4x4

225 will be perfectly driveable, like driving an S3.

When i had the mk2 vr'd i wondered what it would be like as a daily driver and it was just fine.

Wont you need the same parts wether you go 150 or 225 anyway?

basically the guys fits the engine DTA management and fully mapped for 3250

he said he will do it for 3850 with a 150bhp engine he has instock, (with large intake ports) what difference that makes i dont know [:D] all fitted.

otherwise i have to get an engine myself which is gonna be over a grand for a 225 and the hassle of finding all the bits.

150 would suit it best unless you wanna start spending more money then its the 225.

Although a valver may well be around the 150 hp the 20vT will have much more torque.

totally pointless to do the 150 conversion...you may as well just get a low mileage or recon'd 16v engine. similar bhp but huge cost difference (i'm guessing a 16v would be 500, and the 1.8T being about 4k)

4k a lot to spend for very little performance gain, so go for the 255bhp one if you're gonna do it.

however i'd say a vr6 is a better option, will cost loads less and be similar performance.

4k a crazy amount of money to spend, think about it, you could get a westfield for that money.

    I'd without a doubt do:

Designa Dubs 225 on standard management

Or 24v VR6 to be different

    Hi guys

I've recently bought a converted Mk2 (225 stock, 290 with upgrades) and have to say it is too much power to use to it's full potential.

Having said that, with a little left foot control and using a higher gear than normal it really flies :p

Money aside, if you want to be able to floor it and get traction then go for the 150, if you're prepared to change your driving style go for the 225 and upgrade it when you can afford to.

acf i harldy think it will be little gain.

the car would be 190bhp turbo compared to a 139bhp with waaaay more tuning abitliy and about 10k on the clock

vr6 has been done to death and you lucky if you find one with less that 80k on the clock.

i just got a quote for 875 tpft.....im paying 1000k at the moment

just need to wait till im 22....6 weeks

really considering it now and i think 150 is the one for me.
