Cheers chris, wish i could find those gears info as i need to decide which box to use in my mk1 coupled to a tuned 9a on ITB-s

Also i'm getting a 4.25 F.D. to fit but need to know which box out of these two would be better

Still 3 seconds is 3 seconds...........you ain't gonna get 3 seconds by just changing the final drive

What's more you'll never get over the inherrent weakness of a 16v 020 box especially running close to and over 200bhp.

For reliability I'd choose to spend the money on tyres for the mere fact your gonna post quicker lap times and save your change for a rainy day when the box eventually lets go.

Unless you get budget tyres though it's no cheaper.

I agree tyres are a huge defferance - i should know how good they are - but i still think (again from experience on my piece of shat) the final drive gearing change is one of the biggest improvments i have made.

Well i think tyres are now a defo....I was perhaps 1-2secs a lap slower than Mr B around Combe on Proxes compared to his Dunlop Inters on the RSOC day.

Maybe F.D too, "If" it can be done on a budget..

Combe is a strange one in that I think i may not feel that much of an advantage from different gearing compared to any other circuits...(No gradient, & only Bobbies feels mildly between gears 2nd/3rd)

Combine the tyres with a stiffer rear ARB & i think the lap times should significantly improve....What bars do you use Gary & Craig??

The driving lessons idea is also a good one1 Although I feel im always on the limit & fairly close to the ultimate pace of the car....im sure a "proper" driver could make me look silly [:$] We all do this for fun after all ;)

I think my point was missed: by putting larger race tyres on, and moving the effective gearing back towards 3.67, I was gaining nothing in time terms, despite the race rubber.

So, road tyres = same as large radius race tyres. All proved on back-to-back sessions on same day.

    Difference?

    Gearing.

I'll give them a call again this week mate. Check what they have in. I might get some of the wets too for the winter warmer days.
