the exhaust manifold is different, because its mounted longditudially (sp?) and i think the inlet is too.
someone told me what i needed to do if i used a 6a but i cant remeber, do a search on the forum (i would for you but my search doesnt work!)

It'll all bolt up if you have a 16v already to use the parts from. The blocks are pretty much identical as far as you're concerned. Both manifolds and a few other bits are different.

Depends how many miles are on it and what nick it's in - strip it down first, have a look at the bearings and bores etc.... then you can decide what you want to change. It never hurts to put in a new set of std. big ends and mains, assuming the crank doesn't need reground. I'd also hone the bores and replace the rings unless it's a low mileage block - but again, you'll probably be able to get away without doing that. Depends how much you want to do and how much you need to do.

Yup, you can use your own head or the one that comes on the engine.

    I've just put a 6A from and Audi 80 in my Mk1.

You'll need to swap the sump and the oil pickup pipe across from the 1.8 as well. its all pretty obvoius when you've got the engine to look at.

if my engine was anything to go from you won't need to touch the bottom end. i don't think the audi's get much abuse!. mine was on 100k and was absolutely sweet.

I've one with 250k on it and the bores are like new! They don't get a lot of ragging, generally....
