Needs bumper trim linsead oiled. Side trim and arches came up really well.

Also I plan to fix the dbw unit in the scuttle down here.
I think using the accelerator cable and some kind of attachment it'll work okay.

looking good! I've seen a few guys mount the DBW actuator that way, an exhaust clamp to the scuttle was one way I saw it done

Yeah that's an idea! I was thinking of fixing the dbw unit in a slightly modified bracket to the inner wing. Only thing I'm uneasy with is removing the wing and drilling through the inner wing. Not sure if that's a great idea as its structural?

    Anyway another dilemma is this...

New sunroof seal. Tight fit which is good because it's genuine. But now the alignment now it's refitted.

Front is perfect but rear is a few millimetres low :(

Is the rear adjustable like the front is?
Maybe it just needs to wear in.

You can adjust both the front and rear of the sunroof for height independently I seem to remember the front is a screw adjustment and the rear is a serrated toothed bracket. The car looks very nice by the way.

Ahh that's great! Thanks for that :)
I'll get the torch out tonight and have a look into it.

Yes I'm mega pleased with the paint work. Just a couple of bits I want touching up on when it's road worthy and I can get it to the painters.

I've been thinking more about the clocks I want to use. What's the point in even bothering with mk3 if I'm changing to mk2 anyway soon.

Is this all that's needed to get the rev counter working again?

Plus a 1.3 Speedo cable of course.

    Cheers.

yeah that one, or one of the ones from various sellers who do 20v looms will work as well the 20v rpm signal is the same as the tdi ones. James E Looms and Chris Bellman both make their own units for example :)

Sorry I assumed you already knew how to adjust the roof and was just worried about how stiff the seal was

    Heres the rear adjustment screw:

    Brilliant. Thanks John.
I had no clue about the rear adjustment but I'll give it a go now :)

I think I'll get the kit sorted for the clocks and purchase a ce2 petrol set. I think it'll be slightly out but ok for me.

Does that now mean that I can bin the spare 2 a1 a2 plugs and just transfer the main red fan control wire over?

Also do the mk3 clocks have any bearing on the immobilser at all in the mk3 tdi?

petrol clocks with adaptor will read ok, just the redline and max revs bit optimistic for a diesel :)

the immobiliser for the mk3 is in a separate control box so it makes no odds what clocks you want

if the only wires you have in a1 & a2 is the 2 indicator wires for mk3 clocks and the live to the thermoswitch yep you can bin them off, swap the red to the mk2 loom and job done. only thing is if the mk3 red is still in the engine loom and you swap it the headlight and engine looms are going to be joined so you cant split em later.

if you can split the mk3 fan controller wiring out completely and swap to the mk2 headlight loom then thats fine, or another route you could go down is swap the red wire into the mk2 headlight grommet and tape the 2 looms together in the bay, split just before the bulkhead to 2 grommets. This is how the post-96 SEAT Toledo looms are, they didnt bother to re-make the bulkhead to suit later style complete looms if you get me

Yeah that makes total sense. The red is in the engine loom so would, in effect, join the two looms back together. For now I'll de pin and swap but maybe later i will unwrap and swap. For now they are freshly wrapped and look nice!
I'm not happy with the routing of the looms anyway as they stand so I'm going out now to look at bringing the engine loom behind the dash and out the lhd grommet holes and down passenger leg.
Light loom I think I'll try and bring through the footpan grommets and down chassis legs. Should be an interesting afternoon!

Got a little done this afternoon until I got called to work for the weekend :(

Used string to pull the lighting harness through the chassis legs
    Screenshot_20171006-205836.jpg

And relocated the engine harness to passenger side
    Screenshot_20171006-205843.jpg
Also the side repeater connectors up through a grommet from the chassis leg. Perfect hole for it!

I have ce1 8v GTI cluster that I'd like to use.
    I have ce1 to ce1 cluster loom.
    I have mk2 ce2 cluster loom.
    I have mk3 ce2 tdi cluster loom.

I would like to convert these clocks to run on ce2.
Could I do same as this using both Mk2 looms....?
    http://clubgti.com/showthread.php?284415-Using-CE1-cluster-with-CE2-Mk2-VR6
Adapting what I have though instead of vr6 bits.

Anyone have the accurate pin info for both sides? A2 resources is good but still a little hazy.
    Thanks.

and yes my pin list in that thread is how you splice CE1 clock plugs to CE2 fusebox, use the MK2 CE1 & CE2 cluster looms and ignore the VR6 speak in there just follow my list :)

Can anyone identify this plug? Screenshot_20171010-154359.jpg
    Screenshot_20171010-154403.jpg

From that plug, there is a black/white wire that runs to m/5 for the tank level wiring. I have cut every other wire on the above plug and can't figure why :(
If it's now a redundant plug ie only useful to mk3 setup then where am I to move the black/white wire to?

And thanks rubjonny for that. I'll dig my wiring out and have a go :)
